Burn After Reading is fantastic.

No Strings Attached - 4/10

Really questionable career choice from Portman, she has the talent to pick and chose the roles she plays and make herself one of Hollywood's finest, yet she does dribble like this and "Your Highness"....shame really.

Haeckel's Tale -1/10

From years ago: needlessly-revolting necroporn, when I was expecting a regular old fantasy/horror. DO NOT WATCH.

She's trying not to get typecast. If she just does difficult movies she'll end up a broke indie actress a la Wynona Ryder.

Paul
8.5(9)/10

8.5 because I saw it in German at the movie theater and several jokes got lost in translation and also because Simon Pegg's and Nick Frost's British accents are quite fun to listen too.
A lot nice sci-fi/pop-culture/nerd/comic allusions and respective cameos.

It seems as those two guys try make a movie for all major genres and they're definitely doing a great job there (Shaun Of The Dead = zombie movie, Hot Fuzz = cop/buddy movie).
Paul is now my favourite extra terrestrial buddy movie. Beats E.T. and MIB easily.

Yes, I know how lasers are and it annoys me that they aren't common use weapons in the future along with plasma weaponry/rayguns and masers, sasers and whatever other sci fi junk is involved. Maybe I will become a video game designer. Hard to decide what I want to be in the future as there are so many things I'd like to do and they don't necessarily mix very well.
The problem is, for all those energy based weapons, the energy density is way too low and will definitely be for a long time into the future.
Any generic gunpowder propelled bullet/flechette/grenade delivered from a hand-held weapon does a lot more damage than any energy weapon of the same size could do.
That is, if you don't want to exchange batteries after every shot.

Also, lasers/masers don't work that well in an atmosphere, as scattering and skin depth respectively would drastically reduce the range and power.
Coil/rail guns are a more promising approach, but still limited to large, vehicle-mounted versions.

Thor

6/10

Very disappointing tbh. Needed better characters. And better fight scenes. lol

From the trailers, Thor just looked like something hastily thrown together so people wouldn't be like "who the fuck is this guy?" when the superhero orgy movie comes out.

I read somewhere she chose to do it as a break from Black Swan, as she thinks it almost gave her an emotional breakdown because of the intensity.

In the future, don't you think in a timeline such as Halo's that those problems would be fixed by then? At least the rail gun and coil/gauss gun issue of having enough energy required for it to be used for standard infantry use.

It was my problem with the movie (havent seen it yet, really want to) Thor just isnt as well know as the X-men, batman, spiderman etc. Especially here. he never had a cartoon here and comics arent a big scene(its very small, few shops that sell em). So im kinda worried that it wont be well received here because no one knows him

If they had spent less time making it "omgom omg 3d! ! ! " and more time on the characters and story, it could have actually been a half decent movie.

My family finally roped me into seeing it the other night.  I feel that if the movie was not hyped to be the second coming of jesus, except this time jesus was handing out free cookies and blow jobs, I probably would have enjoyed it more.  That hype is basically the reason why it took so long for me to see it; too much hype builds high or low expectations and kinda kills my desire to see somethin.

Anywho, decent sci-fi flick, I do enjoy the sense of a universe that was created.  Acting was fairly decent too.  There are were a few too many cliches like the over-the-top evil marine general (capt. kittenkill as gravy dan once called him ) and Spoiler (highlight to read):
the fact that the super-advanced human forces were beat by some natives and animals.

Overall, good film and im interested to see how the sequels pan out.
I thought it was pretty common knowledge that technology doesn't make you superior. What else could the humans have done against the avatars? It's the avatars that got their asses kicked when they could have fought way better. Oh and screw whatever the name of their god is, the animals could have screwed the humans over without the avatars having to lose a single life.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.

yeah i know, but at least some people in the US know him. Here, literally no one knows him.
The few people that will see it are either rare comic fans or people that want to watch a random action movie. Same goes for captain America and Green lantern. Theyre just too unknown in this part of the world

the Fighter

solid 8.5-9/10

christian bale fucking kills it, one of the best performances i've seen in a long time.  Compared to the short clip of the real Dick Eklund at the end, he fucking nailed the guy.  Thought Walhberg's performance was a little wooden and the portrayal of the family-at-large a little over the top, but all in all a great movie.

the Way Back

7/10

inspiring story. a little slow at times, but a pretty good movie about some prisoners who escaped a ww2 era siberian gulag and trekked across eurasia to freedom.

5-6/10 for me, Christian Bale did a great job in playing his character, I really don't like this movie that much as it didn't excite me.

I both agree and disagree with that statement. 3D can ruin a film if that's the only thing its about. However, 3D can also add some great spit-polish to an otherwise smooth flick (e.g., How to Train Your Dragon).

Special effects should never trump story, but supplement the telling of it.
