My fam/friends and I like glymspe. We use it often when one of us is waiting for the other, or we need simple directions to where the other is. You can set the length of time it shows, and have favorites (for quick sharing). It's just real simple.
Only the people you send it to gets the link.

I use an app called "screenshot", but i you have to be rooted to use it. Once the app is running you just shake the phone and dumps out a screenshot. I'm sure there are other ways as well.

Not really - it takes alot of research and alot of time to get it rooted.

A good place to start is xda developers.

I just updated to Radio_12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M -- I always feel ill when doing a radio install :s -- And a new ROM: "[ROM] Android Revolution HD 4.0 β 4 | Gingerbread & HTC Sense 2.1 | Android 2.3.2"

Rom has booted ok - Doing a factory reset

Gingerbread's UI is quite interesting.

I like the quick settings tab on the notifications panel.

There's a lot availble. Look on google, there's probably one there specifically for your phone.

What phone do you have and what ROM are you planning on using?

Lifehacker is always a good place to start.

A custom ROM is what you install on your device when you root it. It's a custom version of Android.

Have a quick read...

Some of the benifits in that 2009 article are no longer relevant.

I still haven't seen any compelling arguments to void my phones warranty.

This.  Although getting rid of the bloat would be nice.. and the proxy... Im gonna wait till the warranty is up though, I hate voiding warranties.

At the moment, if you are AT&T and want to use the Amazon marketplace, you'll have to either root/custom ROM the phone.  I rooted mine and installed a 'liberated' ROM, which is basically the stock minus AT&T crapware and with a few things unlocked (like tethering, creating a wifi hotspot, etc...) at no cost.

I want to root for free tethering though, that's a hell of a perk.

For that, I think you need the custom rom.  You have an HTC Inspire, right?  This is probably the sort of thing you'd want to get that...  http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996368

pdanet works fine. If you don't mind having your phone plugged in to your laptop. I've tethered for free almost every day since I've had my phone.

Do you guys have a favorite app for pop email? A buddy of mine is having trouble with the built in email client on his phone.

I've heard some good things about K-9.

I use K9 and love it!  It's a clean interface and runs beautifully. Also, it has push IMAP to give you exchange type insta-mail (but will kill your battery)...

It really annoyed me that ATT was so controlling that they disallowed non-market apps.  I wonder if they plan to fix that for all their Android phones, or just the newer ones.
