Uhh, educated or not, any rating assigned is wholly subjective.
no shit!

the educated and informed part is the important bit

no one is claiming that a film buff is giving a definitive, objective be-all-and-end-all score

just it probably says more and is more insightful than an uninformed, uneducated person's

I think the OP's rating system:

10--> outstanding
8-9 -->very good
6-7 -->average (meh its k)
4-5 -->below Average
0-3 -->piece of shit
Pretty much says it all. The rest is up to the user, and whether or not they rate all categories in the same subjective pool. Your education has little bearing on whether or not you can say you liked a film, so long as you don't lie about your 'qualifications.'

Not necessarily. It depends on the person reading the review. An uneducated and uninformed person will probably end up agreeing more with the review generated by a like minded individual than by someone he has nothing in common with such as a film critic.

I don't like scoring because a number doesn't mean anything. If you love a film and give it a 10/10, it might be for a reason that another person doesn't care about. Instead, it would be more effective to describe the movie, what it was about and the reasoning behind why you think the way you do about it.

Simply saying "X/10" with no context is not useful, as everyone has different tastes.

Watched Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day

Terrible rehash of the original movie. Characters had no development, the acting seemed forced. The action scenes tried too hard to be like the original, but really couldn't cut it. The plot was just weak as well. I wasn't expecting much to begin with, but wow they really out did my expectations in a bad way.

Just watched two of the worst movies EVER last night. Damn you netflix!!

It's Alive

DIE-ner(Get it?)

So, I can't even rate them...but the first one was only entertaining in the fact that a baby was eating people...the second was awful and we had to force ourselves to watch the whole thing.

I don't like giving numbered scores to things. I just say whether I enjoyed them or not for whatever reason it was enjoyable.

yeah, but the comment was not directed at what your favorite types of movies are, otherwise I would have phrased my response like "what are your favorite types of movies?"...

Pretty clear.
If i'd do that, most of my movieratings would be 4, with a few 3's, maybe one or two 1-2's and two or three of 5. I think 1 to 10 gives you a lot clearer rating. But there should be some guidelines made like you have with your 1-5
Yes, without a specific sentiment signed to a number the opinion is very general.
If a movie is deserving of a positive review there is plenty of difference between liked it, really liked it, and loved it. That's all people really want to know. In fact most people just want to know if it's worth watching.

"I liked it a little more than just liking it but not enough to really like it" ..lol. It just seems pointless to me. Any opinion beyond 1-5 should be accompanied by text. Actually, I think any rating should have a review attached to it .. but whatever .
You are forgetting the neutral ratings.

I would describe his selection as inspired, irreverent, intelligent, insightful, and generally amusing.

Indeed, it is precisely because his selection of a quote from a banal, inane, and immature film so incisively and intelligently indicates his insight into your inane perspective, is it so instantly humorous.

Oh, and above, I think you meant inane, rather than insipid.
Then again, your grasp of the distinction between what is subjective, and what is objective, is projective of your general invective.

And now I'm just having a bit of fun.
