valid point Nic. Personally I would invest extra in the Vertex.
Its a tempting edition, would love to put one in the itx build I've been thinking of:
2500k-2600k
Gigabyte p67 itx
8gb ram
gtx 570
vertex 3 120gb
coolit eco cpu cooler
corsair ax 750
Lian li q08.

certainly a very nice spec-wise looking build. I know you have a watercooled pc- is it a lot of hassle to clean and maintain the unit?

I actually sold that a while back, seems when I complete a build, I just get over it right away and want to build another. Currently only have a laptop and PS3 for gaming.
Its not really a hassle to clean as long as you plan the build right, and include a drain at the lowest point, and be careful. There have been some really nice offerings lately as far as making loops simpler and more compact. For the price it costs, I would argue its more beneficial sound wise, than in a performance increasing aspect (Video cards can be so loud nowadays). Also more fun from a hobbyists point of view.
Things like the Danger Den Monsoon:

Or the Switech MCR-Drive series Radiator/ Reservoir/ Pump.
http://www.swiftech.com/radiators_reservoir_pump.aspx

The Gigabyte P67 itx is supposed to be a nice little board for OCing, apparently they are leaving out integrated video in favor of using the space to improve the over clocking capabilities of the board. Could be fun to build a really powerful mini computer.

The only thing that sux now is getting the motherboard, newegg only has itx form factors in stock for what I am looking for

motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813128475 (out of stock atm)

processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819115070

memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820231314

boot drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820227605

video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130550

Originally I was going to slide everything into my existing case and use my existing psu, but I am thinking to leave the current system in tact and build an entire new one.

Thinking of this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811112320

Whats a decent psu ...?

Suggestions, rip it apart

Honestly I wouldn't bother with the GTX470. It is now old tech and it is outperformed by the HD6950 (1GB or 2GB models) which can be found for cheaper. The HD6950 also uses less power and is generally cooler (based on reference design).

Assuming you don't plan on adding a second video card I would go for something like an Antec TP-650 or Corsair HX-650 (I'd probably go for the Antec since it seems to be on a good sale on newegg at the moment)

What lbj said about the 470. Has the budget changed with doing a full build? I'll have a closer look when i'm not browsing from my phone.

No, adding a second usually isn't in my plan (heat & noise), considering what you said about the 470 I went to this  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814125369

I know can be a pain, yeah budget is flexible, still trying not to go overboard

The GTX560 is definitely a better option than the 470. Personally I'd still go for the HD6950 because you can unlock it to HD6970 specs and it generally performs better than the GTX560 at stock (and when unlocked performs a lot better). However if you are a Nvidia fan and don't want to go the AMD route then the 560 is a good option

what resolution will you be playing at?

Edit: I would go with a 2500k and a gtx 570 over a 2600k and a 560 ti. Both packages will cost the same but the 2500 + 570 will preform about 10% better. Of course for the price of a 570 you could get 2x6850 and destroy both of those packages.
All things the same the 2600k preforms about 5-10% better in gaming than a 2500k, the 570 performs about 15~20% better than the 560, and 2 X 6850s perform about 10~15% better than a 570 or 20~30% better than a 560. Right now dual 6850s is far more bang for your buck.
Also I would consider a 120GB OCZ revodrive over that SSD, it is much faster and still has a lot of space.

2600k + 560 ~ $590
2500k + 570 ~ $575
2500k + 2X6850 ~ $ 585

I'll put a build together that equals about the prices in your above post later today.

Don't swing one way or another because you are partial to a brand. Go with what's better for cheaper.

And that is precisely what i did, it did happen to end up that way.

Honestly I don't want to to run two cards (noise, heat). Really if it comes down to it and it is significant, I'll just buy the better card. Processor is important for me for stuff other than gaming as well. In the end its all faster than what I am running now any.

I'll check out the drive, I had not really considered anything outside of a SATA  interface.

thats cool, just a suggestion, they were 2 quiet running cards, but the 2600k with 560 is a good option, I was just letting you know your other options for the same price. Those are your 2 main parts, as well as an SSD. Also with the SSDs, the new vertex 3 should be in at newegg very soon, and costs about the same as the revodrive for the same price and storage capacity, but is a bit faster, if you preferred a bay drive over a PCIE drive.

no preference there, i was just ignorant of it. makes perfect sense really (revodrive).

Last part is the motherboard, a lot out of stock ... thinking of this one ... Usually only stick with Asus motherboards but ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813130573

If I don't intend to run sli/crossfire then that makes me an easy customer yes?

If you are not intending to run a multi-gpu set up an not overclocking you could easily go with a H67 Matx set up. That would save you monies and space.
I just dummied this up, its from 2 different shops: Total: $1460, which is ~ the price of what you listed earlier.

Cpu: 2600k
http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.ph … omoid=1280

Cpu cooler: coolit eco
http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=50327

Freebie with the above:
http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=59698

Mobo: Asus H67 Pro Matx
http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.ph … omoid=1280

PSU: Corsair HX750
http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.ph … omoid=1280

DVD Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6827151192

Vid Card: Gtx 570
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814121432

RAM: Corsair Vengance 8GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820145345

SSD: RevoDrive 120GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820227578

Case: Lian Li A04
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811112316

I didnt include a HDD since you havent mentioned one yet.

Ways you could save on this:
GTX 570 ---> 560ti saves $100
2600K ----> 2600 saves ~ $30
2600K ---> 2500k Saves $100
2600k ----> 2500 saves ~ $120
Revodrive ----> 120GB Vertex 2 ~ $80
You could save up to $20 on RAM

So you could get the price down as low as $1260 with a 2600K
or $1160 with a 2500k
If you really dont want to oc, go with the non K version to save 20 to 30 bucks.

Not point getting a 2600K and a H67 mobo because you can't overclock on the H67 chipset.

Yeah, I didnt even see this board for 10 bucks more, and its a P67 Matx.

http://www.ncixus.com/products/59321/P8 … 0%3E/ASUS/

As he said earlier, he isn't really into overclocking so the H67+2600 is all he needs, personally I like to leave my options open with P67+ K just incase.
