I just bought an i7 950, 12GB G.Skill 1600MHz, and a Gigabyte UD3R mobo for $760 (Canadian so it should be even cheaper there) Throw in a GTX 560 or similar and you'll be laughin.

Not yet but I plan on trying out the Folding @ Home SMP client with the bigadv flag set and see what happens (to both resource usage, and the electricity bill )

And the price was right. Newegg had a 15% off all Desktop RAM deal.

Wait for Sandy Bridge Mobos to come back on the market. You will get better bang for your buck and the newest tech

E: Should be coming back into stock over the next couple days/week.

My $0.02

ASUS P8P67 LE
Sapphire Radeon HD6970 2GB
Intel Core i7 2600K
G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz (2x4GB) DDR3

(Should be around the right price but i'm not sure on American pricing)

best replacement part upgrade i've done, ever. with HDD's hitting terabyte +, and the cost of SSD finally trending down (more as adoption rate goes up, sure) it made sense to try it.

i put my win 7 install files on a thumb drive, and from the time i cracked the case to having a working OS was 20. for a clean install. i could've imaged it faster, but i think this disc deserved it's own installation.

brb, buying one for my laptop now . . .

My suggestion is to wait a little bit longer still, all of the boards are not back on the market yet, and the Gigabyte UD5 is supposed to be one of the better OCers.
For everything else:

This would explain why Yea I'm completely patient at this point.

Honestly though I don't get into overclocking. Is that where your processor suggestion came from?

Ok, if you don't want to OC at all, You don't need either the 2500k or the 2600k. I know you said Sli or crossfire not necessary, but if your not ocing, the bulk of your power still comes from your video card, so you may be able to build a more powerful multi gpu set up. Espceially since you have a PSU that will support it.

One question, what case will you be building in?

Actually, even with that processor, I was able to put togeather a really good set up at www.ncixus.com, one with dual cards, and the new Asus EFI bios that makes OC'ing very easy if you decided down the road you wanted more power.
- Quick video showing how easy the bios is to use:

Anywho, most of it is from their sale page, it changes every Wednesday night.

- Processor, Core i5 2500k $214

- Motherboard, ASUS P8P67 $159

- SSD, Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB $123 <--Sata III btw

- Memory, G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600  $89
http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.ph … omoid=1280

- Video Cards, 2X ASUS Radeon HD 6850 DirectCU 790MHZ 1GB  $165 for the first one $180 for the second for a total of $345

up for pre order in Canada, not cheap.

If anything waiting would be better for the other ssd's to come down when thats released.

I stand by the crucial SSD, write speeds somewhere between the vertex 2 and vertex 3, but less than half the price. Will work great for a boot drive.

I think the price is fantastic considering what you get from other manufacturers at that price. Starting at 225€ in EU for the 120GB. I have paid 200€ for Intel x25 g2 80GB and its 3x slower at reading and 7x slower at writing and it still costs around 170€.

The intels are over priced though, I still think the above build will work far better than one that could be put together with the Vertex 3 in the price range he has, if it was a couple hundred bucks higher, yeah throw it in, but its not for now. Maybe he could sell his current hardware to make up the difference.

valid point Nic. Personally I would invest extra in the Vertex.
