"paddy" comes from the Gaelic name for Patrick, which is Pádraig. "patty", is an abbreviation of Patricia. Patricia didn't come into existence until much later.

Personally I've never heard it called anything other than St Patrick's Day, but then again I don't celebrate and I don't really know any Irish people.

Could have been put in the "what you bought" thread, but since it was technically bought last week and going in today , the office is getting upgraded to 12 Mbps from 1.5 today. Considering it's where I spend a small chunk of my time on Steam while procrastinating on a trip back home, sweet deal for me. Oh, and I'll be able to download e-mail attachments quicker.
