Cage has a wider variety of roles than Wahlberg. That's talent.

I quite like subtitles. At least, I prefer them to dubbing. Growing up in the Netherlands though you get used to them really quick, because everything is in English but has Dutch subtitles. On a related note I watched Un Prophete last night after everyone on here raved about it and really enjoyed it. 9/10

Spoiler (highlight to read):
The bit where he's putting the razor blade in his mouth made me cringe though, I kept thinking about swallowing it
Streaming Un Prophete on netflix the only option for me was english subs.. so I had it delivered so i could get it without them.
Do you speak fluent French? Mine is reasonable, but unless you grew up in France I think you'd miss out on the majority of it, just because it's entirely slang which obviously isn't taught in French classrooms.

Close to it. I grew up around french, as it is my dads and his side of the families first language.

I didn't think Next was all that rubbish for a Cage movie.

Yeah it's out there, but not as bad as it's made out to be by that image. And the character isn't just a fortune teller, either.

The same can be said for a lot of movies, which is why anyone who sums up an entire movie in one sentence is retardedly stupid.

Burlesque - 6/10

Probably deserves better. For a dance movie it isn't that bad, but it stretches some things out longer than necessary and fails to establish a reason for caring about any of the side characters. It's one of those bad movies that somehow manages to be boring while neither being terrible nor making me truly regret the rental.

From rt:

"Yes, it bears absolutely no resemblance to the historical art of burlesque, but that's like complaining Jurassic Park didn't have enough palaeontology in it."

"Burlesque manages what seemed impossible: It is filled with half-naked dancing girls, yet it's still boring."

Maybe, but come on. The sentence still makes me chuckle when reading it.

la haine (the hate) - 10/10.

for anyone that liked un prophete (or any of the other french films here that i have recommended, to a lesser degree)- YOU MUST WATCH THIS FILM. it brings all of the brilliantly poetic french realism to a new level, and takes a deep and introspective look at life outside of the confines of the prison drama. yet this film is also defined by the justice system in france: civil and social justice and injustice as much as the prison system itself. the prison setting of un prophete (and its religious imagery) casts a menacing spectre over the everyday lives of the central characters in la haine, and their struggles in the outer-city banlieues. set around the parisian riots of the 1990's, la haine is a widely-set study of society in the multicultural european 20th century, and the individual's struggle to define oneself within it and to transcend above it.

really if i had to choose a 'must view' top 5 films of all that i have waxed lyrical about on here... this would be one of them.

(starring vincent cassel as the main protagonist, who you will be familiar with as the manipulative ballet instructor from black swan).

i remember watching it translated some time ago, this time i got myself the geuine article. good, even keanu reeves' grimaces which usually stand for acting in the movies with him didn't bother me as much as usual.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

Technically not a movie.  But damn, that series had more genital shots at one time than almost any porn movie I've ever seen...

After hearing good things in this thread i've been watching the old BBC WWII documentary The World At War.

Yeah it's basically a 10/10 so far. Enormous amount of footage, lots of detail great narration, loads of of interviews with people that were involved. I'm learning a lot about the war.

I'm on episode 15 and I'm definitely going to watch the rest.
