I'm getting a pair of headphones for moving in with my girlfriend, and I'm struggling to figure out which ones to get.

I'm leaning toward HD555s, because Fin has them and they're pretty decent sounding for the price. Only problem with them is: They leak sound like Graeme Norton's ringpiece leaks after a particularly hard night.

Read a thread on /g/ the other night, and someone said that these are really, really good headphones. They don't leak much noise at all, but they are a bit pricier.

I'll just be using them for gaming and listening to music.

So, fire away suggestions.

I love my 555's, but they need to be properly driven to sound their best. Get a DAC/headphone amp at some point, and your ears will thank you And yes, mine leak sound like crazy.. as do all open-back type headphones.

Have you considered something by Audio Technica or AKG?

I have a pair of HD 515s, they get the job done and don't bleed music. I listen to them on the train to work each day and nobody complains. Even when I'm playin' slayer or sommit loud.

Bought them cause they are comfy. Might not be audiophile as you're looking for though.

If you're not using an amp, get 555. If you are, get 595.

But then he'd have to buy a screwdriver and safely dispose of the foam.

Srsly if your source is accurate, that is pretty shameful from sennheiser.

I've done it myself lol.. the hardest part was finding where I'd left the screwdriver in the garage But yeah.. it's well documented on Head-fi that the only real difference is the foam strip.

Is this based on a source within Sennheiser or some geeks who stripped down a couple of headphones?
Differences aren't always obvious.

Using a proper amplifier to drive headphones instead of a sound card or walkman/ipod etc makes a big difference to the sound in my experience.
Although if you're listening to MP3s you might as well use two cans and a piece of string.

I did see them on my recommended amazon list today. How good are they at holding in the sound?
