*shrug* Pretty much anything in a game can be abused. If the snipers are doing that, they're not helping out their team very much, and I'm going to know exactly where to go to knife them all in the foot.

A sniper can be a great asset to the team if he sticks (relatively) near his squad, taking out encamped flag defense. Load up with an M95 and you can keep enemy air grounded for awhile.

From memory, my time sniping in BF2 roughly amounts to this:

~10% lone wolf, out for [aimless] kills
~10% air asset shutdown [in servers that won't pussy-kick you for 'camping an uncap'] (e: 20% seemed a bit high, I don't do it THAT often)
~60% squad support [flag clearing, capped flag trapping before moving onto the next]
~20% bottleneck defense [Karkand river, etc]

BC2 sniping:

~50% camping some hill several kms away from the target
~40% running around with shotties and the G3
~5% camping at the spawn
~3% idling
~2% actually doing their jobs and helping the team

Oh sorry I thought we played games for fun...

Games shouldn't be stretched by a "you can't have this yet" policy.. they should be stretched by quality and good post-release support tbh...
where have i said the long ranking wasn't "fun"? i just argued exactly why it IS fun to have to play a long time to unlock everything.

i think it's the complete opposite of 'fun' to be given everything for zero-effort/skill; it's bland, boring and short-lived.
Uzique... Games are about PLAYING THEM... The gameplay is what is supposed to be fun... not the fucking unlock tree
If the unlocks take a while to receive, you have to PLAY THEM. So then the game is about PLAYING THEM.

Gameplay is fun, you work hard to achieve a goal and get rewarded for working hard a long time for it.

It's only a "Fucking unlock tree" if the game gives you unlocks every rank which comes every 1000XP.

You contradict yourself with an alarming rate.

Yeah, my sniping was similar to UN13's. I hate to sound like a braggart cos I really wasn't that good, but sometimes I'd go lone-wolfing and end up killing a lot of enemies. Might not be as teamwork-oriented as capping a flag, but each time I killed an enemy that was 15 seconds with one less person my team had to fight. I'd usually follow my squad and provide fire from a distance so they can do their jobs. I'd get some kills and some kill assists.

hey guess what.  67 people want the game to be like bf2, not bc2.

that means you're all wrong and working hard towards and achievement is the right answer

You still get to work hard for your goal when unlocking. I honestly prefer to unlock weapons instead of never being able to unlock them, BF2142 came way too damn soon which forced me to take my bf2 time off in order to play this new bf game. You may as well make it quick so you can be ready for the next game.

They didn't force you to buy BF2142. That game is the beginning of the XP rewards and faster ranking, perks, etc. Although they didn't make it too easy to rank up. You still had to spend a decent amount of time playing.

If snipers have no armour and ghillie suit, It'd be awesome if the suit actually worked, on every graphics setting
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

Well, the ghuilie suits in COD4 would work fine once the grass is drawn but it was ruined by those red name tags. The ghuilie suits in Joint Operation Typhoon Rising worked great at long range though, the person becomes nearly entirely transparent.

I reckon 3 claymores but they're destructible.
Ghillie suits don't work in cod4 if you have all the graphics down low, not for me at least on my old pc, the snipers used to be a slightly different texture/shade to anything else.

Might work for Predator, pretty sure it doesn't work for ghillie suits.

Most games don't render grass beyond x meters. In Typhoon Rising, the guillie is nearly the same color as the grass, so up until x meters you can hid pretty well. Beyond x meters, the grass doesn't render anymore so you see a nice big green lump in the ground with a rifle sticking out despite the player being in tall grass.

So to compensate for this, the snipers are about 75% transparent or so. This makes this a lot harder to see but they are still visible. All sniper rifles are 1-shot-kills at any range on any body part, the firing delay is pretty long. There's also bullet drop you need to adjust your scope for. It's a brilliant game, really.

Anyway, so snipers are transparent when the grass is gone and rifles produce enough smoke to notice if you're looking at them.

Great system, great game that came out in '04 and it had 150 player MP, huge maps, weapon selection, character selection, uniform selection, etc. One of the best games in my book.
