oh yeah "wait till the people from the hood see this".. I guess any respect there was for the police department is gone forever now because of 5 idiots.

I'm not excusing their actions here but really, fuck the media - the more I watch the news the more I'm starting to hate it, especially this sort of "news". This should've been seen simply within the walls of the court until the end of the case or when the judge would allow it's release. Not like this, way to make everyone look bad. Once again, thriving on creating controversy.

that is literally fucking disgusting.

there is NO way that application of force is 'reasonable', which is the main requirement of police being granted extra-legal permission.

a fucking horrific abuse of their position of power and authority within our society.

probably racially motivated, too, judging by the hood-gang comment.

lock them up and give them twice as much punishment to a regular citizen for so wantonly abusing the trust we have vested in them.

Over the top.  Whatever happened before this moment is irrelevant...the guy was clearly laid on his stomach ready to be taken into custody.  It didn't even look like he was resisting them as he was being kicked and punched.  Bad form on the police officers' part.

unwritten rule of local law enforcement agencies in the US: if you stop, we will just arrest you. if you run, making us run, we will beat you up and then arrest you.

it doesn't apply to every single law enforcement personal but it goes all across the map.

my thoughts: cops actions were totally inappropriate. excessive force and police brutality were made clear in this video. unfortunately, it's not that easy too fire cops or any civil servant as most of them have a union that will back them up until the end. i really hope that when the individual sues the shit out of the city he goes after the cops wallet as well as the cities. that way 20 years down the line when a quarter of those guys paychecks are deducted they will have that thought with them.

It's true that publicity here could potentially influence the trial with popular public opinion. Maybe the police should only beat people half to death in the privacy of interrogation rooms, huh?

You commit the crime, you do the time. Here in Texas, you run from the cops, the cops teach you to never run again. Plain and simple, Respect the Law, and the Law Respects you. Disgrace the law and the land, and you will be punished. Easy as that, if thats too much for you, move to California. Where they call out the swat team because of one person with a single pistol. Here, you get shot. By the cops, or civilians. You dont like it, dont live here. Easy solution.

yeah, the law also states cops are to use a REASONABLE amount of force when arresting a subject. someone should direct him to the law section of any American library...if he has ever been to one.

just a quick question: is everyone who says "Shouldn't steal," advocating the agents actions?

And are they aware that the police have the power to arrest only, not hand out punishment?

He is considered a suspect until convicted in a court of law.

Wouldnt think so. They're probably just trying to get the point across that he wouldnt be in that situation had he not stolen something.

a term most people in this country can't seem to grasp. cops enforce the law, courts determine the guilt of suspect(s), corrections punish, rehabilitate and reform convicted offenders.

the three C's which comprise the modern United States Criminal Justice system.

Thanks, I appreciate the the reminder of something I learned back in elementary school social studies.

I'm not advocating their actions as much as I just don't give a shit about the guy getting his head kicked in. He wouldn't be in his position if he didn't commit burglary and run. I really resent the whole ''the poor man is getting abused by police!'' comments that always spring up after something like this happens.

it's not so much "the poor man is getting abused by the police" as it is the police EXCEEDING their boundaries(set by law) and using unreasonable force. so we let the cops get away with this one thing. what's next, they shoot at a suspect they are pursing who they believe stole a bike?

rule of thumb: stay in your fucking lane and do your job.

there is a significant difference when it's the cops as opposed to a citizen. police are trained and prepared to be in that situation and properly handle it.

So who exactly benefits here from your entitlement to know? Aren't professional eyes already judging the tape, aren't they more than qualified enough to do so? Should the entire police department be slandered publicly (because that's what happens with the release of such footage) for the actions of 5 idiots or is its reputation unimportant?

Videos like this should always be made public. If it stops just one Police officer going too far it's done some good.

I don't see stories or videos of criminals being caught deterring others of doing stupid things later in their lives, why would it work with cops? Couldn't we have just waited for the release of the tape AFTER the case was closed or when the judge gave his approval?

Releasing it while it's still under review sets the police department entirely in a really bad light.
