did you do the blanket fix?presidentsheep wrote:

Got it fairly close to release and i've fixed the RROD about 3 times now. It will be missed.
RIP sexbox.
Don't bother with a 6970, you can just get a 6950 and flash/unlock it to a 6970.Computer_Guy wrote:
What videocard should i get for my second system?
Q9650 @ 3.8ghz
4gb of corsair ram
Asus P5E X38 with crossfire support
Been looking at 6970, 6950, 6870, and a 5870 2gb eyefinity6 card for $280.
I play Starcraft, CSS, BlackOps, and some emulators on it at 1080p.
I fail to understand this strategy by any company that does it...coke wrote:

fixed it with some different clip things once, a hairdryer another time and an old pc fan the third time. They're designed really really badly inside. Might try the oven on it, its covered in capacitors though so I don't want to risk it.FloppY_ wrote:

Yeah but how many people actually know they can or feel they have know how to do it. Don't think of it as charging less for the version that has locked feature they are simply charging more for the unlocked one, so the really you can see it as the hardware being equally "cheap" also it's cheaper to manufacture 2 cards at different price points on exactly the same assembly line.FloppY_ wrote:

Sell same thing with features locked and charge less... surely the hardware is equallly expensive no?

No point in using the oven. Let it provide it's own heat. Wrap it in a blanket, pay special attention to blocking any fan vents. Run it until it shuts off. Leave it wrapped in the blanket until it cools, then try it.
My brother did it for our mate and it worked for a few weeks.
Thanks. I just bought a terrabyte, my OS is on a 500GB HDD. So if I basically moved everything across and then reformat the half terrabyte things should be sweet?burnzz wrote:

I've had my system coming up to a year now, no reformat yet. Should I? And if so, what's the recommended way to go about it?
b) download current drivers
c) save system settings (export firefox bookmarks, IE shortcuts, whatever)
d) make sure you have the time to do it, and then
e) do it.

you don't have to re-install all the programs. take a screenshot of your "add/remove programs" and when you re-install windows,Jaekus wrote:
I guess then is just the tedium of reinstalling all the programs again...

only install what you absolutely need, and re-install them as needed. you'll find it cuts out the crapware.
here's where i'll mention imaging programs - after you have a clean re-install (windows, windows updates, device managers clean)
Image your machine. call it 'clean.img' then, after your basic, gotta have it programs are installed, image it again - call it "apps.img".
good luck, have fun
that's a very good advice. I used to use an old version of Norton ghost to make image of my system. Clean install+necessary software. It took only 5 minutes to restore your whole system in case of software conflictsburnzz wrote:
