in the latest editions, amirite?

i live in a state that was going to bust the dominant, local religion because they excluded black people from leadership positions in their lay priesthood. They would be labeled a "club" and have to pay taxes.

Bingo!  revelation from God, that the "mark of Cain" had been lifted and no longer would people of color be excluded from any leadership positions. i am sure the same would happen if Men in Black were a documentary and not a comedy.

It's sad that evolution has been around for so long and our population still isn't science-literate enough to understand a very simple concept. One step at a time though, find life first outside Earth, and then concetrate on intelligent beings.

Fuck Creationism. I don't have a problem with people believing in god or whatever. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. The only group that really irritates me are Creationists.

Apparently not. It's hard to sound intelligent when you can't use correct grammar or punctuation either.

I can't be arsed replying to the ridiculousness above. I started hashing something out but, well, deaf ears and all...

However, my point was paraphrasing people, especially mid-sentence, takes their arguments out of context and allows you to reconstruct them with replies that suit your agenda. You're not sharing points of view, you'e just trying to "win" some forum points. It's bad forum etiquette.

And the other point conveniently glossed over was despite evidence to the contrary, when people firmly believe in things (like religion for example) they will find ways to explain evidence to the contrary. It's a form of psychological survival. It's also a basic human right, despite how much I may disagree with what some people believe.

I used to work for the astrophysicist who wrote this book.  He used to partake in the occasional evolution vs. creationism 'debates' that happened on campus every so often.  They weren't really debates, since the creation argument is quite weak and clearly doesn't hold up to rigorous scrutiny.  Apparently his book tackles the issue, however not from a combative point of view, but from a philosophical one.  I've always wanted to read it...but alas, I'm too cheap!  :p

Ahh, Greg Graffin is the lead singer of Bad Religion. His PhD dissertation was titled "Evolution, Monism, Atheism and the Natural World View". It's as boring as anything you'd expect from a dissertation but he did a pretty damn good job collecting religious beliefs from scientists around the world. A surprising number of them do indeed maintain at least some faith. It was something like 40% if I remember correctly.

I'm sure atheists could have come up with something better than "Evolution" lol.
