Has anyone on the forums bought the game and tried it out yet? My buddy and I are looking for a new MMO to try out and we've been looking at this one. I don't have too much hope in it. What's everyone else's view?

I would wait a week or so for some proper feedback.
Also there seems to be a lot of problems... 2gb patch on launchday and a lot of people are having problems downloading the game and account issues.

from a guy I know:
its actually not a bad game, combat feels arcadey and moderatly fun, the city is nice and big, voice acting is hilariously bad

I was THIS close to buying it. What held me back was that I knew it wasn't going to be anywhere near as cool as the cinematic trailer.

I think the concept is a cool idea and the character creation videos I've seen are pretty sick...but my guess is it goes the way of APB. Perhaps not as soon as APB died.

IMO the one MMO coming out this year that's going to last is Star Wars: TOR. It's made by a reliable company and it deals with a very popular world.

I've always wanted to give a MMORPG a try. The monthly fees keep putting me off. If I'm feeling irresponsible with my money I might try this. Doesn't look great but could be a bit of fun.

If more of these games actually had a single player campaign (even a short one), I might actually buy them.

There is a story line that goes along with this game. It goes about brainiac invading earth along with the good vs evil kinda thing. Evil characters work with lex luther to take down super man and good works alongside superman to take down lex.

Yes, but you still have to play it online (don't you?).

i believe it's moving towards a model like the LOTR, where certain areas/abilities require the monthly membership dues.

Freemium is I think what they call it?  I've been debating getting this game too.  The monthly dues are really throwing me off though

In one of my rare possible lapses of judgement I decided to buy this on releae. Which in NZ was today. And people still insist that I live in the future for some reason.

I haven't played it yet of course due to the 2.9GB additional download, I'm starting to think it would be worth some game producers mailing out disks instead of asking us to drain our monthly bandwidth allowance so there you go, I do live in a country with old fogey ISPs.

For some reason, (closet superhero fan,) this game really excites me. Yes it's an MMO and I've never liked, (nor played to any great extent,) MMOs but after seeing some game play and finding that it's not all math, macros and grind, has great scenery, it has decent voice acting, (most of the time,) and the character create actually lets you be quite creative. To be honest the character models could be a bit less set in stone. I mean Hell, either lumpy boulder, bodybuilder or midget bodybuilder - and that's not even as bad as it is for the ladies who have gargantuan chick with double Es, large chick with double Es and midget chick with double Es.. Surely today where superheroes and action stars are more lean than the 1980s/early 90s lumpy masses of steroids there'd be a slider bar to tone up or down things... but Hell this is the DC comic universe we're talking about I guess.

So yeah, been looking forward to this. The funny thing is that I already know exactly what a couple of my creations will be like since I've already created them, (closet superhero fan remember,) because when I was about eleven I kept coming up with superheroes and supervillains. In fact the predecessor of my current moniker here came from a superhero I created. I just hope none of the names I picked are taken.

We'll see how the game is in the first free month anyway, if it's not worth anything after than I can call it quits easily enough.

I hear the character creator in DCuo is inferior to the one in Champions Online... anyone can comment on that?
Creating a character was the best part in Champions Online...
Then it was fun flying/tunneling/jumping/runing/swinging around doing hero stuff for a while... Then pve got dull as hell...
PvP in Champions was great fun thou. Unbalanced beyond belief, but fun.

Got into the game. Character creator left a bit to be desired but good enough, plus in-world pick-ups mean there are more options as you progress in the game. Created a psychic staff-weilding villain who can fly and is mentored by The Joker. Played for about 20 minutes before the servers were shut down for maintenence. Yay my timing.

I think it's very in depth. I've never seen one superhero or villain like another.

I hope it works out for you, Ty.

I'm a bit of a Trekkie, but don't play STO as much as I should. It's in great part to a large portion of the game forcing me to participate in repetitive land combat with terrible controls. I'd never have bought it if it weren't for the lifetime subscription deal they had going on pre-release.

Despite having two months of AoC on standby, I'm still looking at DC online. Keep us updated.

You should check out TotalBiscuit on youtube, he did some pretty in-depth reviews of the DC beta along with game footage

channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/TotalHalibut

he also does a lot of WoW and starcraft stuff too.

Yeah I saw all his videos, that's how I researched whether I wanted to buy it or not.

Been playing quite a bit. Got a hero and villain. Tried two movement styles, speed and flight. I think I like flight more because once you reach level ten you have the option to fly fast.

Watched two of the gameplay videos. Now I'm really interested. Gotham is beautifully rendered, and they even have the police blimp floating around. Be interested to see how long it would last though. I wonder if the whole thing is voiced.
