stole one of your lines, sorry... it fit perfectly"This Is It" is a terrible album. Awful music, just nothing compared to The Wall.
"Nevermind" is just a ridiculously bad album. Nothing revolutionary about it compared to Revolver. Kurt Cobain had no talent whatsoever.
The Black Keys should just give up on music. There's no melody, and no wicked cool guitar solos, yo. Both of those guys should be ashamed that they're not George and Paul.
Anyone hear that new album by The National? It's nothing but sad guys talking about sad stuff with a bunch of pretentious over layered stuff.
Trent Reznor should just go work in a cubicle from now on for creating a ridiculously bad album like "The Downward Spiral". God, it's not music.
In short - it's asinine to put down modern music because it's not good "compared" to a group like the Beatles or The Who. They were pioneers of a genre that was just starting to pick up. I could just as easily argue that music today has no originality compared to what Bach, Mozart and Beethoven created.
I only listen to music made more than 2000 years ago. Just get out my aeolian harp and listen to the wind's poem, baby.
Is there a problem? Have I not gone over this with you? Maybe you shouldn't come on the boards if you can't handle talking to people without such gratuitous insolence. My tastes are my tastes, my views are my views and I was joking around with other people about it, I fully understand most people will disagree and that's OK. But you had to make a snarky comment, right? Did you not learn from the countless other threads that people have had to say something about the way you talk to people? Did you not learn from the Mike Vick thread? MW's advice was sound. You don't know how to talk to people without acting like a giant douche. That's your reputation that you "don't care about".
You really are a child. Why don't you go sit in time out, little boy, it seems you don't play well with others.

it was just a reference to how you can't compare modern music to music prior really... especially in terms of rock and roll. It's not fair to compare someone like Interpol to The Who. You just can't do it.Uzique wrote:
also poseidon the hallmark and defining part of 20th century music is that it marked the first complete shift away from the likes of "beethoven, bach and mozart"... so you don't know what you're talking about, either. the one defining thing in musical composition and theory in the 20th century was the development of the chromatic scale by arnold schoenberg, and the resulting experiments in atonality/microtonality, phasing, minimalism etc. that was the most major (and intentional) shift away from the classical-romantic tradition... pretty much ever.
dont bother copy and pasting that to him... maybe just both be quiet
of course there's in the same genre, but this guy is putting down modern bands because they're "nothing" compared to bands like The Who and The Beatles.Uzique wrote:
yes you can. you entirely can. there's a clear evolution of rock music from the who -> interpol
if you wanted to say that you couldn't compare brahms to indonesian gamelan ensemble music... i'd agree. there's no mutual history/influence.
but there's a very clear creative narrative thread joining the likes of the who to interpol.
just because the end-sound isn't similar, doesn't mean it has had no influence.
