Yes, but we've already seen that it doesn't matter if you have infected stuff on your skin, it doesn't turn you into a zombie. The chick whose sister died, she had blood all over her arms and face and she's not a zombie.

And I totally agree with Shifty (as much as it pains me to do so) - why can't the military just mow down the hordes? I mean, there were a number of M1 Abrams tanks there and those aren't exactly paintball guns they have mounted on the turret. Hell, the .50 alone would be able to start cutting limbs off the zombies so even if you didn't get a headshot, you'd certainly cut them down to where they likely wouldn't be a threat and then you just walk through with your weapon of choice and start destroying the brains.

I don't think he's infected. The acid got him not the infected material.

Mebe those tanks and other mounted ones are out of ammo due to panicing soldiers trying to fight off a horde coming from every direction? But then again if I would run out of ammo, I'd start driving rally on the masses and clearly those tanks are just standing there and no one has even thought of driving anywhere with them. An M1 goes over 450km on one full fueltank and has a top speed of 67 km/h. So it would be a very good getaway vehicle. Infected ones surely don't run that fast. Anyhoo I'm pretty sure there's going to be some sort of safe haven coming soon at them in a couple episodes or so. Atleast in the last episode of the season. Unless they all get eaten...

Spoiler (highlight to read):
It would be something weird if the CDC guy wouldn't screw them over. Why is he alone in there anyways? Where are the rest of the scientists??

They prob just ran out of ammo, i mean as of 09 Atlanta had a popilation of over half a million people.  How long can you fight off that many people with automatic weapons that chew through ammo?  Not to mention roamers from all around group together and head towards the sound of the raging battles.  They kept coming and coming and coming.

The entire city of Atlanta and it's surroundings didn't instantly become infected in 5 minutes and charge one position. As you can see, it takes several hours if not days for infected people to die, then several more hours before they revive. All 500,000 people didn't turn into walkers, so you can take off a huge chunk of that number and pronounce them dead.

Surely the military wasn't immediately deployed. Police units would have set-up "Safe" zones. The entire city of Atlanta can't be monitored though so it's extremely hard to contain a disease like this. Once the police got overwhelmed the military would be called in. I cannot begin to describe how complicated a situation like this is though, neither do I have any experience on the matter, these are all just assumptions.

Once there's few survivors to worry about, it becomes extremely easy for a military unit to clear a block and hold it. Military bases would be able to hold off hordes as well, assuming they don't let a bunch of bitten survivors in. At this point, tanks wouldn't give a fuck about collateral damage, so busting buildings and shit to block streets with rubble is a real possibility, making a practical fortification that is nearly impregnable with properly equipped units defending.

To sum this all up, and in an attempt to clear my thoughts up for you guys, since I don't explain things very well. A well equipped military unit with HMMWVs and tanks would be able to capture a city block and hold it, assuming they get logistics every now and then.

1 - Tanks blitz into city, position themselves on 4 corners of a block. Chop things up a bit. Shoot the sides of buildings to create rubble on 3 of the 4 corners to slow the walkers down when coming over it.
2 - HMMWVs ride in, set up sandbag positions with machine guns and support the tanks.
3 - Infantry clears the block.

That's pretty summed up but I'd think it would work in some situations. This would be with a company sized unit (150 men) with HMMWVs and at least 1 tank and 3 other armored vehicles.  Then you have a large area a helicopter could land supplies in and evac if necessary. Voila, you have a safe zone.

I was also thinking about the people taking the tanks, but are they easy to start and drive?

cause hes used to us ripping on him all the time.  It does make good sense.

But from what I understand about the comics its not just the living who are infected turn tino zombies.  The previously dead rise too.  and when you die you turn.  Some people its instantaneous and some it takes time.

Maybe the military couldn't cope because they were deployed in 130+ nations worldwide and not at home?

I'm sure they'd bring extra ammo along in their trucks or HMMWVs. Each soldier would probably have 10 mags, so that's 300 rounds there. A company sized unit would have 150x300= 45,000 rounds. Then you've got the .50 cals on the HMMWVs and tanks, etc.

Fuel isn't a problem, you ain't going anywhere anytime soon and there's plenty of abandoned gas stations. If shit gets bad they can scavenge food through the town (canned goods) for a while. I donno

I just don't think it would be bad enough for them to run out of logistics in the first place (Considering the bases should be fine).

Well if they didn't run out of fuel/food/ammo then the army/marines are just shit then. I mean, the dead don't even have weapons.

Their job isn't to go out cleaning up the earth. They have a safe-zone and they need to hold it. Based on the assumption that a larger military base is giving them supplies, I doubt they're run out of ammo, food, water, fuel anytime soon.

What do you think? If a small military outpost can hold, the large bases can too.

Shifty's right, the military should be able to hold off any form of attack from anything ever.  Let's go back and change all fictional media that says otherwise.  Dawn of the Dead could just be reduced to a 5 minute montage of tanks and Marines set to a Slayer soundtrack, 28 days later could be the same, but set in England with the Marines changed to the UKSF and the soundtrack changed to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and Shaun of the Dead could just be Shaun and Ed playing Time Splitters 2 while the military roll past the windows.

See, military accuracy makes everything fun!

Leave it to eskimo to win the I'm the biggest fucking cunt that was ever born award again!

My point was that it wasn't plausible. Obviously it wouldn't be fun if the military could hold off these things. From a realistic point of view, they could though.

eskimo: the military actually did come in and clean up the place at the end of Shaun of the Dead...

Shifty: could you PLEASE learn to use proper grammar? Every time you use the word "there's" it's supposed to be "there are"... I have Austrian students that are just learning English that don't even make that mistake in their writing.

I'm sorry, I know my grammar is terrible; especially when typing. I type fast and generally forget to read it over, or I edit something and then the rest of the sentence doesn't make sense.

Do you folks remember when Darrel shot that man in the butt with the crossbow?  Darrel shot several walkers with those arrows and reuses the same one each time, without sterilizing it. That man is going to be a walker!
