I was a guinea pig for a sports science project at Loughborough.
At the end of it I could do a 30 minute test, with my pulse rate at a steady 200bpm for the last 10 minutes.
Can anyone beat that?

i go as far as 180
stay around 160

I dont train cardio much, I just run to the gym to get my heart rate up as a warm up. Any cardio I get is out biking around or snowboarding.
Surely higher is worse?
not necessarily, but a high bpm is not something to boast about imo. It's the ability to recover i.e. get back to a normal bpm (70-80) which is indicative of the level of fitness. However, resting bpm is the real indicator of physical fitness, Lance Armstrong is so physically fit his heart only has to beat 29 times a min.
i don't go above 150 and last time i had a mot it was 69 bpm resting.

Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
29bpm?! That's ridiculous.
i thought a low resting bpm is just how big your heart is, not how fit it is?
Sure it might lead you to be able to do more than someone with a higher bpm, but it was always recovery afaik.

Worked out 3 weeks solid now, day 2 of my fourth week done. My heart rate was easily 100+ when resting before I started, just checked it now and it's around 72-75 bpm
Only had one big night on the booze, the other times I've drank alcohol have been 2 drinks at a time (4 times in 3 weeks isn't bad...)

When exercising its a measure of how hard you can push yourself - assuming you don't die.ghettoperson wrote:

Cyclists with big hearts generally suffer when they get older as the heart gets flabby but not smaller.

hard... you can gain muscle mass, while loosing fat, but your metabolism will play a big role. Its a difficult question since fat does not equal muscle in weight. You can lose size but gain weight by putting on muscle and losing fat. What are your goals, current weight, body fat percentage are things that need to be known for a proper answer.HaiBai wrote:

Went to the physio yesterday. The doctor told me a few months ago I had an inflammation on the outside of my knee (pes anserinus tendinitis) causing the pain. 3 weeks of rubbing salve/balsam (sp?) on the spot didn't do jack, so went to the physio. According to her my hip muscles (abductors) are too weak in comparison to my quads, resulting in an inflammation in a quads tendon, resulting in a painful knee.
Hey guys. So my wife did her first BB comp on Saturday night. My sister competed as well in the Figure portion of the contest. Was an awesome night, wife got second in her class and fourth in the novice open competition. Pics later.
How do you guys manage your workouts if "home" is just "a place to sleep"?
I haven't worked out in at least a month 'cause I'm so busy with university.
Although, classes start at 2pm on tuesday and thursday, so I got up earlier today so I could finally work out. I'm thinking of doing that regularly, but I really love sleeping in on those days..

Jebus man, that sounds shit. Lots more lengthy exercises? Spelling was right afaik though
No offence Sonder, but not sure I like to look at really muscular women.. That's awesome they did so well though.
And to complete the set... Defcon, 9am is easily long enough to sleep if you go to bed at a reasonable time. I hate going to be late and sleeping late because it puts my sleep balance out and i can't get back to a normal schedule easily. And I hate spending the whole day in bed to go to bed 7 hours later. Makes me feel like I wasted a day.

Well, I continued training legs for a long time without really bothered that much with my knee (I didn't go that hard on legs, though). My knee didn't get any 'worse' (if that's possible ) so I figured I wasn't really making it worse. I could probably continue training legs right now, but I guess I'll give them a rest, and only focus on strengthening my hip muscles. Physio 3x a week now so I'll be glad if I can get 3 workouts per week the next month.. I sure hope so.
I just hope the physio is right, because she really did give a completely different cause than my doctor. This one makes sense though, because when she compared my left abductor strength to my right you could really tell my left was much weaker (and it's also the left knee that's hurting )
I guess I'll hop a few times on the 'vagina machine' when I'm at the gym now Somehow makes me lose all my manliness though..

Vagina machine. lol
TBH I'm not sure about Physio's. My sister is one, and all they seem to do is recommend exercises. But i guess they are muscle and joint people, and there for rehabilitation, not primarily to cure everything.

First of all she 'fixed' my back, as it wasn't perfectly straight or something, I forgot. Felt really weird, I had to breathe in/out as she was putting pressure onto my back, and all of the sudden let go. Felt weird, but good.
As you said, she recommended me a certain abductor exercise, but she also did do some special work on some tendon in my quad, which hurt quite a bit, but it's for the greater good

Just bought BSN NO-Xplode for the first time as it's now 25% extra for the same price.
Gonna try it out now. Should be good.

Gonna need some help later on boys. Tonight i'll post my workout that i've been doing since about March, I need a change. Either a change in reps or new exercises.
Since March
Oh boy, I'm pretty sure you do need a change, I bet you can even do it while sleeping now..

I like it. There are better pre workouts IMO. Try this if you get a chance zim:Zimmer wrote:

Also, weighed in at 215 yesterday. Feeling bear mode for sure. Loving the strength though, gonna look awesome when I start leaning down.
