true that , it's battlefield , not COD
and we totally need weapon limits in BF3
Not really, all the weapons in BF2 are pretty balanced, even with all the nerfs. I hope they'll go back to the bf2 weapon style instead of the BC2 style. Like, with more unlocks. The small amount of weapon options in BF2 allowed for very strategic use. I'd rather have a smallish amount of weapons and one or two unlocks per class than a ton of weapons with limits, because some weapons are bound to go obsolete, and I'd be pissed if I had to wait forever to use a barrett or some other popular weapon because people are hogging it.

And a lot of times, short term solutions lead to long term problems. Wwith weapon limits and a ton of weapons that people ccan use no matter what army they're in, in the short term weekend warriors and new players would love the weapon variety. In the long term people would start to bitch that the weapons they have the best feel for are always taken already and each team's strategies would be practically the samecause they had access to the same weapons. With the bf2 system, people will run out of new weapons to try in the short term and bitch cause it takes them forever to get unlocks, butin the long term the weapon choices will affect which team they play as and their style. Each team needs indigenous weapons, as well.

BF2 had the G36E. Your answer is invalid.

That's one weapon. Your rebuttle is invalid. If every team has a weapon with the same performanceas the other teams, then your rebuttle is valid.

no, because then everyone will use a AT/AA, and MG. you gotta put limits on that in order to have the entire team using one weapon (G36E medic trains, anyone?).

"and each team's strategies would be practically the samecause they had access to the same weapons"

fuck no, offer different weapons for different teams. I said that at the start.

an AK-74M can be expected to handle differently than a M16.

"people would start to bitch that the weapons they have the best feel for are always taken already"

I'm pretty fucking sure people would not say that the AT/AA launcher with 2 rounds has the best feel.

Also, that MIGHT apply for snipers, but sniper's roles easily can be taken with a rifleman with a battle rifle and ACOG in most cases.

the way I plan to make it work is like how tech trees work in most games (2142 unlock system)

you start out and get points, that you can use to spend on a tech tree of your choice.

So many questions, so little info from DICE... well it's your lucky day!

from this interview:  Eurogamer interview with EA's Patrick Soderlund

Eurogamer: The PC version of Battlefield 1943 didn't happen. What's happening there?

Patrick Soderlund: We are obviously working on the PC platform and we'll be ready to talk about that shortly. You should see information around the PC platform in the not too distant future.

Eurogamer: So the message is the game is not dead?

Patrick Soderlund: We'll comment on it when we have information.

Eurogamer: How's development on Battlefield 3 going?

Patrick Soderlund: It's going well. I'm very happy with what we have and I'm really excited about showing it to the world because we have something that is going to be very, very cool.

Eurogamer: When will you show it?

Patrick Soderlund: You'll see. You'll know probably sooner than I will. You are going to be able to see it in the not too distant future. The marketing guys would kill me if I told you when.

Eurogamer: The Battlefield franchise now is massive. What's next for Bad Company?

Patrick Soderlund: Battlefield 3 will be seen as a true sequel to Battlefield 2. But considering the success of Bad Company, we haven't buried that at all. It's something we're looking at what to do with.

But right now we're focused on making the best possible game for consumers to enjoy, and that's obviously Battlefield 3.

Perhaps it could be compared to the Predator series.

BF2 is Predator
BFBC is AVP
BF3 is Predators and more similar to the original source material.

Or something

No because casual gamers don't get to play cool games, after all he said:

Oh shit.  That clinches it then.  It'll appeal to cool kids.  Can we say console friendly, big explosions, laser accuracy, etc...

If it's a "true sequel", then it won't be coming to consoles.

Even at it's most dumbed down, BF2 never really catered to completely casual gamers, but they still played the hell out of it.

What kept BF2's community strong for so long was the very fact that it wasn't easily mastered, but it was so epic that people who sucked would still keep playing day after day in the hopes of one day being the guy owning on the ground/ in the heli / in the jet / etc...

So yeah, let's hope they don't water it down too much.  It might seem like a smart move to cater to casual gamers, but that just results in a game that's drastically less popular after only 6 months.

Make it good enough, and they'll play even if they suck at it.

yeah make the console game a PC port, not the PC game a console port.

That's what they did with BF2, and it was still popular.

In my opinion, BF2 was great because even players who sucked were'nt getting killed left and right.  The maps were so huge, that one could always keep away from the pro players.

I think they'll do with it whst they did with BF2. Awesome PC game, shitty console port.

They know their focus with a game like BF3. PC gamers. Console gamers have BC2 which isn't too shabby, but BF3 should be, as indicated by how BF2 was created, made for PC gamers.

Wonder if they'll go with Frostbite?

They are rolling with a new version of Frostbite, 2.0, which drops support for DX9.  Link.

God no, not frostbite. Just go back to the BF2 engine and make that better.
