So, I'd like to spare the world the excesses of having kids when there are too many people here to begin with.JohnG@lt wrote:

That's beside the point though. Too much of the world already breeds like rabbits. My choice not to breed is already made up for by the average Pakistani couple by about a factor of 7.
Because the point of living has nothing to do with having kids. It has to do with making sure people in general live better in the future.JohnG@lt wrote:
Why is it always the people that say they don't want kids who try to change the world? Who are they trying to change the world for? It makes zero sense. If you're not going to have kids go skydive every day until your chute doesn't open. Go out with a bang. Why drag it out.
That means keeping population growth sustainable.
Wanting to live life is arguably the main reason westerners don't breed until the oppurtune time. Who wants a kid at 23?
Live fast die young, sex, drugs and rock n roll, etc.

The point of living is most certainly to pass on your genetic code. Hate to break it to you.

I'm thinking about how cool would be if instead of praising welfare moms they were giving money to everyone who doesn't want to have kids. I would ask more than £200 though.

I care about humanity in general. I don't have any attachment to the concept of creating a progeny of my own because it's not about me -- it's about society.

Its practical, no doubt about that. But in reality, when you offer a heroin addict money for a sterilization you're just giving him one more fix in exchange for him being neutered. THAT'S what makes it immoral.Turquoise wrote:

It's completely immoral to breed when you don't have means to support the kid. That ok though because in the long run they'll all get raised...in some shithole where they'll be abused and addicted before age 6. But hey that's good livin', right?
The immoral thing is offer money to a heroin addict money in exchange for sterilization. You could throw in an extra $50 and graft some skin off his back for a burn victim and he'd do it too.
Here in Brazil, public health offers anyone sterilization procedures for free. (well not for free since we pay an absurd of taxes, but that's another issue...).

That's your choice, Galt. Admittedly, you do take the more common route of choosing to breed. However, to help your kids along, I'm choosing not to, so that they can have a little more in resources to use later on.JohnG@lt wrote:

It's only logical that the most prosperous cultures die out in terms of breeding. They serve their purpose in the economic food chain as the poorer societies catch up. However, since poor will always exist, there is no fear of our species dying out due to a lack of interest in breeding.
We have much bigger threats to our existence such as nuclear war, meteors, seismic cataclysms, global warming, and pollution in general.
Breeding will always be more than compensated for.
You're overreacting, kids with ADHD aren't that bad. Besides, with people telling them they suck or they're retarded all the time, they get incredibly depressed and continue their behaviour causeit'sall they know. Get the kid Ritalin. If it doesn't work, use Concerta.jord wrote:
