havent we learned that we cannot depend on child services?
We could....  but it would require giving the government a lot more power.

To be honest though...  child services (and social work in general) is one area I don't mind giving the government more power in.  It's hard for even Libertarians to argue against more power for these institutions because children are involved.

I know someone who has this problem, and I've known him for years ... fortunately, he doesn't hoard trash, just tons and tons of stuff.  Stacked floor to ceiling, with barely any room to move.

It is more of a personal problem than a community health hazard.

Sure they are. They just hoard different things.

Once on that show saw a guy who saved a paper plate from his birthday a long-ass time ago because it reminded him of his dead mother.

Health risks to whom?

Depends on the housing but if I live alone in a detached house that is mine I should damn well furnish it how I want, including using shit for paint. Kinda like mek does.

How's that for a smear campaign...

Trash or stuff.  It's the same psychological issue ... the government deals with both the same ...  if it is discovered.

Ehrm...
Compulsive hoarding is a mental disorder (of several degrees of severeness).
Those people need help, not "solutions".

Stop watching moronic TV programs!
Stupid sensationalism.

As long as they are few and far between, I don't see a problem with that.  What of all the trophies and awards won by our kids?  Game winning balls from little league games.

That's the thing, they weren't few and far between. It was incredible. Just loads and loads of junk that he'd form attachments to. Sure it's important to save the big things, but he had a story for everything and just couldn't let anything go. They basically had to go one-by-one and say, "Would you rather keep this or that?"
Hoarders are kinda scary to me.
