AMD FX-60
ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe (great mob that some companies are using for quad vid cards)
XFX 7900 GTX (84.56 drivers)
2 gigs Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO
Audigy 2 ZS Platium Pro - latest drivers(X-Fi too expensive for the minor gains it porvides - plus i have 2 Audigy 2 ZSs)
Thermaltake Armor case
Windows XP Pro - 32 bit - fully updated

BF2 runs great all maxed settings on desktop and in game and run around 40-50 frames a sec at 1600x1200/85Hrz
fraps on and frame rates dont change

3DMark06 Score - default settings

i havent gotten my liquid cooling yet but it will go on the CPU and vid card for overclocking later on
ill also pick up another vid card in a couple of weeks for SLI

my old PC is a P4 3.2 gig single core OCed to 3.6 gig
2 gigs of random noname ram
asus p4c800-e
audigy 2 zs platnium pro
bfg 6800 gt (APG)
windows xp pro

bf2 ran fine but my desktop settings were at their lowest or off and in game graphics were on medium
got around 70-80 frames a sec but when arty hit it dropped to 20 frames a sec at 1600x1200/85Hrz
fraps running frames would drop to 20 frames a sec

that old PC is still playable but not as refined as the new one graphics wise...bf2 still loads up in the same amount of time and im still first in the server

i buildt the old PC 2 years ago and spent 1500 on it at the time...this PC cost me 2100 - bought everything off ebay to save money...got the CPU for 800 bucks...they still going for around 1000 - 1200 - a guy told me at work i built a 5k PC for just over 2k...lol...

i checked out dell, alienware, gateway and a few other PC companies and ill have to agree i saved $$$$ buying and building it on my own

I don't know where you think the X-Fi's are too expensive (though I'll agree with you on the Fatal1ty's and up), but at least you already had the Audigy 2 ZS handy.

agreed, unless you want the super-expensive x-fi's or if you wanted the front panel (unnecessary) the x-fi xtreme music is a good buy.

nice system btw, what type of watercooling are you gonna do?

hmm i heard the FX60 wasnt a big improvement over the other fx cpu.
the 7900GTX?why not the 7900gt so you could have some money for the xfi? oh well thats just me,

The FX60 is a dual-core FX CPU. If I remember right, though I'm not rich enough to pay much attention to FX's, its unlocked multiplier allows for some pretty decent overclocking, which would explain why he bought a pair of 3500LLPro's. The A8N32 is unnecessary, unless the OP plans to grab another 7900 in the future. I don't see why he would, with the G80 nipping at our heels.

wheni built my other rig 2 years ago i bought 2 audigy cards - the one collecting dust was installled in the new rig

i like having the exteernal box on the soundcard...easy to plug in mic and headsets and the like for movies - i i would have gotten teh X-Fi pro which is 400 bucks atm

yes ill get another 7900gtx later on...

yaeh i know hte fx-62 comes out around june 6th...its a new socket i belive and i didnt want to wait for it

quad core CPUs will be coming out next january - this is the reason i opted for the fx-60 now - in a couple of years ill grab a quad core when they get the bugs ironed out of them...lol - whent he quad cores come out windows vista will hit the market - yes it was pushed back again - maybe due to the quad core and quad vid card technology thats been popping up

as for liquid cooling im going with thermaltakes 745 with koolance vid card water blocks made for the 6800, 7800, and 7900 vid cards (fits most of the 6800s and 7800s but all the 7900s)

the cpu will get the single radiator while the hotter vid cards wil get the dual fan radiator - lots of tubing and such but ill make it work...will have to mod my case a bit too to get the dual fan radiator attacked to the outside somewhere...ill dig into that when it arrives

my old rig im selling to my folks - they still running a P3 system and could use a new PC...once i fix the heating problems in it...i have a thermaltake liquid cooler in it but its not tied into the vid card yet...still waiting on that waterblock to come in...the CPU runs very cool now though - just gotta fix the vid card from overheating...if u saw one of my other posts about it i had to underclock the vid card to play BF2 recently - it was overheating and dropping frame rates bad...underclocking stopped it from overheating and i gained 40 frames a sec - lol - its the case its in since it doesnt provide the airflow the thermaltake armor case does...

i highly recommend the thermaltake armor case...very quiet and cool

i looked at the xfx OCed cards and for the $$ it wasnt worth it...thats why i got the "regular" xfx 7900 GTX - i can overclock it to the xfx 7900 GTX 512 XXX Edition speeds once i get my cooling installed and save 300-400 bucks...the XXX edition is going for over $800 atm while the other 2 cards r at 600 and 700 respectively...i got mine for 500

i could show u the prices for everything but my forums are screwed up...mysql thing thats really screwing up the posts...i had to shut the site down till we get it fixed

ive seen the specs on xfx site, u r right it wasnt wortht the cash for the xxx version, but get a vf900cu anyways, best air cooler for vga cards on the market now. get it soon since prices on copper are rising fast...

If "later on" is in mind, you could pawn off the single 7900GTX for a G80.

I feel bad because I clicked your compare link and my machine is faster, and im not overlocking... Glad I didnt buy into the hype of an FX 60.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=277866

I'm running
Asus A8R32 - MVP (the equivelant of the board you're running with the ATI Xfire 3200 chipset aka RD580)
AMD 4400+X2 Stock clock at 2200mhz
2 gigs of OCZ platinum ram (going back up to 4 gigs as soon as i can afford to)
ATI X1900xt
Creative Xfi Fatality FPS ( I sold the audio port and cable for the front of my case for 100 dollars )
2 36 gig raptors in raid 0
I am running a fully legit copy of Windows XP Pro x64 with 64 bit drivers for all of my equipment. My videodrivers are not approved yet because they are new but they are the x64 bit 6.4 catilyst drivers from ati.com

Now I am not trying to thread jack but for benchmarking ATI will always do better than the geforce series. But before you get discouraged let me give you my personal feedback. Although my machine is faster in 3d mark 06 (I own a full copy and would be willing to do a complete bench for you to compare)
I can say that I liked my old Geforce set up better.

For one ATI renders bf2 completely different than the gforce does, certain textures show up different, ANTI ALIASING with the ATI is literallly non existant, I play bf2 in 1600x1200 everything maxed on a 20 inch dell 4.3 LCD.

I cannot alt tab out of bf2 and use my 2d applications w/o a big performance hit, as opposed to when I had my Asus 7800gtx top edition.

Apparently ATI isnt that great at rendering 2d aps as opposed to 3d and sucks at multitasking, hence why NVIDIA is preferred for multi display applications over ATI. Its a nice computer you built and I hope you have fun with it, IMO I wouldnt waste time overclocking the FX60. And would've waited for the new AM2 chipset boards to come out so you could've ran DDR2. But if you always wait to build a pc with all of the new stuff coming out you'll never get around to upgrading imo.

I finally bit the bullet after 5 years of planning and waiting and I have the rid that you compared with today.

Best rig no expense spared, you didn't even comment about harddrive.

At least get a 72G raptor, if it's really no expense spared get at least one 150G raptor or better yet 15K U320 SCSI like the fuigitsui 15K the .4 version.

To answer questions about the cooler. I have no problems with the x1900's cooler. As for the reason for the jump from nvidia to ati, well my buddy was building a new computer and I sold him my 7800gtx for 300 towards my x1900xt.

I would not use any aftermarket cooler at all for the x1900xt or any of the x1800 on up cards due to the fact they cool worse than the stock cooler granted they run a little quieter. If you want maximum cooling for your video cards and noise is a problem for you then start saving up for a watercooling get up or stop crying about the noise.

I switched because of my fanboism for ATI, I've never owned an nvidia card, i've blindly told people w/o having the experience hands down because of the numbers they produce ati is better. I defended ATI from all of the NVIDIA fanbois.

Only to be hoodwinked by shitty drivers from ATI. lots of clipping and artifacts show up as opposed to the 7800gtx. I cant even run fraps w/o the compuer just slowing all to shit with the x1900.

I wanted a 7900gtx with 512megs of ram but they're never in stock and I didnt like the offerings people had.

So I figured if I wait for the new RD580 chipset motherboards to come out I can get a compatible motherboard instead of running the x1900xt on a NF4 platform and probably get some stable networking out of my rig too since the NF4 networking platform blows ass too.

To say the least this is the most stable I have had my comptuer since I put it together and I dont see myself changing anything soon besides grabbing another x1900xt for crossfire just to have it and then build my aqua computer watercooling scheme from there on out.
