okay i get your point but i think you are wildly misguided if you think western-translations of the koran have been doctored in any way, shape or form. mein kampf was censored, edited and circulated in such a fashion because, you know, the author had just torn apart an entire continent and committed genocide against millions of fucking people. the koran is a holy text. the islamic scholars are not all rushing to get out an american-friendly version that drops all the 'nasty' unchristian parts just because of 9/11. "step back a bit". be realistic.

so, i repeat, don't bother reading koran. if you still wish to make an informed opinion, you'd be better off finding some annotations or smthng like that. there are also hadiths - basically, stories about prophet mohammed - those are also very important in islam. even lthough not every branch of islam recognizes all the hadiths - for an outsider without special education it's actually almost impossible to know which is which - the purpose of those is making koran and the life of the prophet easier to understand for the common folk and thus hadiths are, supposedly, easily translated.

Hey Horseman, I have an ACCURATE ENGLISH translation of the Koran.  I also have a reader for it written by Islamic scholars.  And a companion text titled, "The Real Words of Jesus" or something like that.  I'll gladly send you all free of charge (you pay for postage) if you actually want to read for yourself.
