with all other video/soundcards this would have been sufficient, with this one it's both a) fucking big and more importantly b) an LED behind a very open enclosure so the light is going everywhere.

I mean this is really petty but geez why do they always have to put lights on these things.

ofc I got the official catalyst drivers I was just pretty sure there was something better/something in parallel that freezer has been starry-eyed over for some time, but I have always had nvidia and not ATi so I didn't pay much attention.

Ended up getting a 4850 1 GB for $95 excluding the $15 rebate newegg claimed, but I was just looking into the rebate and I'm not sure it's applicable...going to be talking to newegg tomorrow about that.

I sharpied some duct tape black and put like 5 pieces over it, getting pics.

Why do you want one?

I mean if I had read this before I went through all this trouble I definitely would have. At this point I don't really want to pull all of it apart and put it back on unless you have an idea or something haha. It is completely opaque directly on top of the LED thanks to two layers of duct tape, only a minimal blue glow now.

hokay so I just got an ATi card to replace my dying 8800GT

1) What are the good third party drivers I am supposed to be using with ATi? The ones freezer creams over if I am not mistaken?

2) Would anyone perchance know of a way to turn off the bright, bright blue video card LED that is totally cramping my case's style?
There aren't any good third party drivers for ATi, those old omega drivers didn't really improve performance at all, they fucked image quality.
Ey, feck off. The Omega drivers let me run Catalyst 9 on the Radeon 9200, HP special edition, in my last laptop. Far superior to the bloody Catalyst 6 garbage that HP offered

Although I must agree, they aren't much use if your card is any newer than that.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Get a VAIO E instead...

Same specs, same price, but with a HD5650 thrown in!
(And a delicious keyboard + vaio software)

EDIT: I love mine!

Vaios are overpriced and Acers are supposed to be shit. I would get either a Dell or Lenovo or HP.

Typically Acers are cheap, Sup. If there's a Vaio that's spec'd better at the same price, get that.

Protip: I said "same price"

I was amazed when I found my laptop at the price it had, all equally specced dell, lenovo, hp, acer or other were 20% more expensive!

EDIT: Also, HPs are SHIT!

A while ago there was article of a hw tester who had 5 HP netbooks fail within a year. There is sayin about HP in Finland, cheap shit.

I wouldn't recommend HP to anyone. Putting it in same sentence as Lenovo is just wrong lol.

Consumer HPs are indeed shit, but shit-talking all of their laptops because those are bad isn't quite fair. Their professional (Probook b chassis) line is glorious.

AppleTV 2 (iTV) looks like a Roku.  Any compelling reason to get the iTV?  I already have the Roku XR, but I want to get another "easy" Netflix box for upstairs.  I have the Wii playing the upstairs Netflix box for now, but it sucks...

It's Apples second version of their AppleTV media streaming box.  Old box sold for $299.  New box is $99.  It part of Apples new push to offer rental TV and movie programs via iTunes.  Video streaming to consumers as the iPod is to music.

I believe only the latest WD TV incarnation, the WD HD Live Plus HD does Netflix.  But it does not have Netflix Text searches like the Roku.
