Not if they just said they were Satanist and that was that. However Satanist does tend to imply some social stances which go a bit beyond and are fairly unacceptable to most people.
Eh, by "tend to imply" means that "the average person insinuates", not necessarily what actually is.Cybargs wrote:

The Nine Satanic Statements outline what "Satan" represents in the Church of Satan:[7]
1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence.
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams.
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit.
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates.
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek.
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires.
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development", has become the most vicious animal of all.
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification.
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years.
Not really.
A philosophical Satanist (of the Anton LaVey variety), yes. A Satanist who actually believes in Satan wouldn't agree with my social stances (or my economic stances for that matter) anyway.Macbeth wrote:
I wonder, would you vote for a member of the church of satan? I mean a 100% goat sacrificing Satanist that just happened to agree with all of the economic and social stances you have with the exception of religious ones?
No you would't.
That's more like philosophical Satanism. The traditional Satanism concept is the stereotypical sacrifices and evil behavior that Christians often envision it to be.Phrozenbot wrote:
I thought the concept of Satan in Satanism was to be in rebellion of "your God" to be your own God.
as i said, a satirical religion, kinda like Rastafarian.Turquoise wrote:

Truth be told, there are far more LaVey Satanists (philosophical) than the fire and brimstone types. These Satanists are atheist in actual belief structure.
Well, Rastafarianism is a real religion. Pastafarianism isn't...Cybargs wrote:

Pastafarianism is so a real religion. All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster!Turquoise wrote:

True... I think if Obama came out and said something like "I support female circumcisions" then people would have a legitimate protest against him. The same would be true if he said he supported honor killings or executing apostates.Macbeth wrote:
My point was more along the lines of: what if you don't support some religious practices, like goat sacrificing or female circumcision. I only brough up Satanism because I don't remember the name of that Mexican religion that kills chickens.
But I like where this is going, please continue with it.
Not quite as scary to state their is no God compared to stepping up to the plate in direct opposition of the Almighty I guess. Philosophical Satanist is going to be my new term for atheists, thanks Turq.Turquoise wrote:

Well, to be honest, most atheists share a lot in common with philosophical Satanists. I do actually. I think LaVey was mostly correct in his perceptions, although a bit facetious in his approach.Stingray24 wrote:

okay You have the corner on " the idea of an objective world view, " From your prospective.Jaekus wrote:
LOL what speaks far greater volumes is the clear fact some of you can't even conceive the idea of an objective world view, let alone try to see from one.
