So I want to be able to run 2 instances of firefox on my computer.  One is going to be through a normal connection and the other is going to be run through a proxy by tunneling via SSH in putty to my server.  Is there a way to have two different instances open like that every time?

I can obviously open two windows, but would changing the connection settings in one window affect the other?  And even if I did that and it worked, I dont want to have to manually do that every time, I want one to automatically connect normally and the other to connect via proxy.

Any ideas?
haven't tried it, but i would have two firefox.exe's, configured however, and create shortcuts to the original exe. rename one "proxy" . . .

Try using a portable version of FF for one of them.

Hmm, possible but I'd guess unlikely.  I'll give it a shot in a bit

Hmm, I'd have to reconfigure everything for that wouldnt I?  I'd lose all bookmarks/settings/etc right?  Bit of a hassle... Plus is there any performance and/or usability difference between that and regular FF?

atm I can just use my laptop for my proxied browser, but I'd prefer to do it all on one computer.

Download the portable firefox from http://portableapps.com/

Copy the folder with your extensions to the folder on the portable directory

Install Xmarks (a must have firefox addon that syncs bookmarks over all your PCs)

Firefox portable takes abit longer to boot up, but once running you won't feel a difference...

Or simply use an extension like FoxyProxy that can toggle proxies with the click of a button

Hmm, I'll try that then.  Shame XMarks is a POS addon though.

I dont want to toggle proxies to have it on and off, I want one to be using it and one not to.

S'all good.

I don't have the money to buy anything because I just spent over $500 for Uni and my car needs a minimum of $500 repairs...

Thankfully my parents bought me the car and pay for my health and car insurance, and also paid the $1,100 tuition fee after getting financial aid and grants.

My Acer laptop didn't want to create a bootable CD for my Win7 ISO that I got from my uni so now I'm looking for a way to make a bootable USB stick. Anyone done this before? If so, what utility can you recommend?

Anyone care to recommend me a nice 24" monitor for around $250-300AUD? My BenQ  22" has done surprisingly well, but it got damaged when I moved and now that I actually have some money, it seems like a good time.

I don't really mind if its 16:9 or 16:10, I've been using a 16:9 for almost 2 years now and have no complaints, but I have a 32" HDTV connected to my computer so I don't really need the monitor for watching movies etc.

Some handy sites if you need to check AUS pricing to see if it falls within.

Many thanks.

EDIT: Screwed up price range

Just create a bookmark for a localhost address over port 22 and when your ssh connection is active you can use that in one of your browser windows.

Easy.

I dont know what that means

localhost:22 ?  Because FF says thats blocked.

Also, anyone ever tried this?  http://www.bitvise.com/tunnelier
Its supposed to be just like putty but with an auto-reconnect feature which is pretty useful.

Another unrelated post.

Current PC
Antec 900
ASUS Striker Extreme
8800 GTS 320MB
Kingston 2GB RAM
E6600 @ 2.4GHz
Antec TriPower (something like that) 650 Watt

And I'm thinking of this upgrade:

https://img340.imageshack.us/img340/9360/ss20100825114236s.png

Total is 1K almost exactly with tax and shipping and I'd prefer to keep it around there.

Would my power supply need an upgrade?  And with a 2560x1440 monitor would I need another 460 for SLi?  I'm not going to be playing intense video games, Alien Swarm is the only game I've played recently.  I'd just like to play at a fairly high setting on games, not maxed out.

Just in case you weren't aware, EVGA 01G-P3-1370-TR exhausts air downwards into the case, rather than out the back. Being a -TR model, it also comes with a 2-year warranty, however the 01G-P3-1370 card is one of the few GTX 460s that EVGA released without offering a lifetime model. If you'd prefer rear exhaust, the 01G-P3-1371-AR will give you that, plus a lifetime warranty for $10 more than what you have now.
