political corruption is just a part of capitalist society. human nature. I dont see why you are nitpicking on allegation of US corruption, which i do not doubt are true, when every democratic society has to deal with it.
very good points. It should also be noted that that the US govt. has policed itself in these cases. Or isn't that worth anything? These scandels were braught to light by the very govt. that you say is corrupt.IronFerret wrote:

My two cents on Darfur:
Struggling with the responsibilty of America after the Cold War I've come up with more questions than answers. Tactically I disagree with our war in Iraq, personally I feel proud that we have provided freedom to millions of people who've been subjected to torture and violence for way too long. That said what is different between Iraq and Darfur? Darfur is more of a cause for American intervention, in my opinion, because hundreds of thousands have died are are under threat of death.
Why didn't we take a more active role during the Ivory Coast crisis? My mail to my congressman, D-Feingold WI, was to get involved especially after we had a flotilla of marines off of the coast. It's disappointing that we didn't do something more to stop the violence by dropping some hardcore folks on the beach and test the will of those who kill indescriminantly.
Of course there are international hurdles to cross yet shouldn't we be called upon by the world community to assist? Half of the problem, once again IMO, is our image. We're fairly selfish, we abuse what we have and enjoy the luxury without considering how bad things are elsewhere. Putting ourselves in someone else's shoes, or lack there of, is impossible since we can walk down the street for a Cheeseburger, Fries and a Coke 24/7. Ultimately our society needs to change it's thinking and provide more for those who have less. Aid, protection, support and guidance should be our schtick. We could send a strong message which would be accepted throughout the world by stepping into Darfur, boots first.
Once questions remains, are we as Americans willing to take on the difficult task of standing up to all acts of genocide, political oppression and mass violence? We should only need one reason, that's to help those who are simply incapable of helping themselves.

there is no difference........however, I think that the US has so many watchdogs within the govt. and independantly from the govt. that corruption is spotlighted. America has a reputation of airing our dirty laundry for the whole world to see. How many other govts. will do that?GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

Why is it so hard to understand that America is not a door mat for the world to wipe its feet on when they don't agree with us, then be first in line for "expected" aid?
I think it isn't too much to expect that the US should ONLY help those countries that are politically and morally alligned with us. Kinda like HAMAS, all pissed off that aid was cut off for them by the west. Gimme a break.
I also said earlier in this thread that all of these countries that tell America it should do something in Darfur should have troops over there before they utter a word as to what WE should do.

The debate over Prescott Bush's behaviour has been bubbling under the surface for some time. There has been a steady internet chatter about the "Bush/Nazi" connection, much of it inaccurate and unfair. But the new documents, many of which were only declassified last year, show that even after America had entered the war and when there was already significant information about the Nazis' plans and policies, he worked for and profited from companies closely involved with the very German businesses that financed Hitler's rise to power. It has also been suggested that the money he made from these dealings helped to establish the Bush family fortune and set up its political dynasty.
