The guy who runs this site paid the fee for a FOIA request to get the entire database of pistol permit holders in NYS and published it online. While that is technically allowed, I don't think the addresses should be included.

The irony is that the guy who runs the site used private registration for his domain. I guess he thinks some information should be private--his own.

What do you guys think about this and the mass dissemination of personal information for something like firearm ownership? I suppose I'm a little surprised that someone only needs to request the entire list, and not just a specific record on it. Can someone FOIA the DMV for a complete list of names, addresses, and cars for the entire state also?

Probably not because the criminal could have just FOIA'ed the state themselves...that's why I don't think addresses should be released to the public.

I have no idea...but I wonder if one request can reveal this entire list, complete with addresses...

I'm sure the public outcry after something like that would be far greater, instead of some people just passing it off as 'gun-toting nuts' complaining.

Site seems to have been shut down and the guy is obviously unhinged.

There's this fat jew of a New York City lawyer that frequents another message board that I write on and his entire contribution to the forum is posting a series called "The reality of guns in the city" where he copies and pastes news stories where guns are involved. Of course, hand guns have been banned in NYC for years now yet he still has plenty of articles to paste. What's more banned than banned? The ban obviously had no real impact and should rightly be considered a total failure, especially since all it really does is keep weapons out of the hands of law abiding citizens who would 99% of the time use them simply for home defense. I don't get it.

The guy doesn't have every right to publish such information. It is an intrusion into the private lives of citizens and can be used as a database for criminals looking to illegally obtain firearms through burglaries.
