funny thing is that the other half of the NY episode focussed on the fact that in the gentrified areas of town, only a few blocks over, the black people let out of prison to do community-service, cleaning the streets and shit, were finding even bigger packets and evidence of cocaine use. the english investigator said to a city lawyer: "the dominant pattern, though, is that people committing drug offences are mainly black and latino, is that not right?" - to which she replied: "absolutely not. black and latino people are the people mainly convicted of drug crimes". she then detailed information about other lawyers, people on wall-street she used to work with, and all sorts of people in respectable institutions using cocaine and other drugs on an extremely habitual basis. stock-brokers doing lines on their desks with other people in the room... anecdotes like that. also the law is designed to catch the poor black guys out cause crack cocaine carries a super-heavier sentence under rockefeller legislation than powder-cocaine. im sure you know all that shit, though. it's a rig.

the dealer had a quote that i found memorable: "they call these the projects cause that's what they are-- a project, it's a system and a game and we're in it".

ya... that sorta legislation is completely arbitrary, and serves only to discriminate on class/racial profiles
