Now this is an interesting article:

Bike agenda spins cities toward U.N. control, Maes warns

Will one day government mandate we bike to work? Is this program that will "wane us from the automobile" while taking our freedoms?

Not to sound alarmist, but it sure seem innocent on the surface. But when you think about it is it really just a power grab to eventually mandate these 'innocent reforms'?

"Bike Agenda"... really? 90% of Americans are obese and haven't touched a bicycle since they were in grade school. You're adding that 10% to the list of people you are terrified by? Why are Mayors of United State cities signing anything from the United Nations? Is that essentially a 'treaty'?

Doesn't that violate the Constitution where only the Federal Government can sign and agree to a treaty?

Harmor it's just an UN idea to create a "greener planet." it's not a treaty or anything at all, they're just implementing an idea that came from the UN, which is a pretty good idea if you think about it.

Bike lanes are a great idea for reducing vehicle congestion, emissions and increasing available parking. Unfortunately, all the ghetto cities nearby want to be like the big boys and just slap down bike stencils wherever they want to say a bike lane is. This completely ignores the fact that any bicyclist who uses one is essentially riding directly in front of someone's right tires.

| | - right lane + faux bike lane = waste of money

bikes only work well if you have a REALLY REALLY REALLY good public transport system... which most US cities don't have

Well, Washington's trying, but we're not very centralized. Plus people don't want to be harassed by criminals on the train. What some people are doing is just using bike racks, parking at a garage then riding out.
