The album that set the standard for downtempo DJ mixes.  Crank that bass and peep this shit.

analogue hypnagogic fuzz, synth arpeggio infinity, concrete noise impulses

pushing forward the aesthetic envelope of electronic progression by both harking back to earlier technologies and exploring into new sounds: as a concept and as an artistic idea, this is probably my favourite artist of the last 5 years. right up there with aphex twin for me.

it's fantastically produced. so warm and fuzzy due to the analogue beauty! the mixture of nostalgic re-hashing with forward-looking noise is brilliant.

it sounds like the outcome of a cat walking on a keyboard. I don't get it, sorry. seems like we aren't educated enough to appreciate it

on the other hand, currently enjoying this

no you're... probably definitely not. "stick to daft punk". you're new to this, blindly following anything, and it shows.

after that ferocious opener to the album, the ears are cleaned of everything and your mind is left blank. then comes the calm after the storm... analogue arpeggios and clean-vocoded vocals. it's hypnotic in the way it echoes around your head, as the subtle key-phasing and pitch shifts reverberate the image of a gloomy and sterile future into the mind's eye. is this a throwback to corny 80's sci-fi or a projection of our real bleak future? the first song was a clash, an audio violence, a cleansing by fire. what is this now, and what does it mean?

Wow. Beautiful. I'm sure the other one will grow on me, but this here caught me instantly. The synths sound wonderful, I'm always a fan of the good ol' arpeggiator, and that picture fits the sound perfectly. Yes, we are being taken to the future, but an alternate one stemming from days of Logan's Run and similar old sci-fi movies.

precisely. the entire album is a concept-- in fact all of his works are, aesthetically and artistically.

the first-song i linked suggests a baptism by fire, a cleansing of the aural palette; a chaos and a destruction that then paves way for these future, synth sounds and hypnagogic hazes. is it the future after some apocalyptic or catechistic event? or is it the blurred recollection of a past, long-lost through the violence of the present, that we only detect for a fleeting moment in our dreamlike state between sleeping and awaking? the album is perfect, and i won't say that about a piece of music often.

tracks like this literally give me an aural orgasm:

the thing i really like about the first track, amid all the chaos and noise, is the constant visceral quality of it-- it feels natural, the analogue instruments gives it a real 'prime' feel about it. and through all the noise and confusion you can constantly hear the droning, spiritual and primal 'OHM' noise. it harkens back to the very basic about human nature and references one of those instinctive, base-level noises that have always stirred the human spirit. then it contrasts that with electronic noise, static, dissonance, clashing metal... it's fantastic. absolutely fantastic.

I really really need to go back through that one again. Now that I've heard these others, I'm more prepared. I admittedly stopped it after the first minute. What a terrible thing to do that I fully regret. Not even playing all the way through and giving it a chance. Goes back to that whole "being in the right mood" thing.

And JESUS FUCKING CHRIST this is just so wondeful and moving. I've missed so many of these sounds. The arpeggiators, hear them a lot and I'm a fan, but haven't heard them quite like this. The warm analogue chords, EXACTLY what gets me going. So warm and fuzzy on the surface, but with such a dark, brooding undertone. Going back to those older sci-fi movies like Logan's Run (of those, LR is the one I've last seen, so it's the freshest in my mind)... The soundtracks to those movies, along with the entire theme and narrative of those films. They present themselves as fun, good-natured, and futuristicly cool. Yet underneath it all is some really dark and scary shit. Warm and happy, yet unsettling at the same time. Exactly the kind of sounds I've been looking for and have needed for some time.

yep, precisely. he did an interview with one of my professors and said he loves analogue synthesizers because you "don't get the feeling you're playing the instrument as a device, you feel like it runs out of your control - like you're just a driver behind the wheels of something that accelerates to a speed you cannot control, merely ride with". i think that's a wonderful description of the way these old beauties work. and yes, his arpeggiating is fantastic... the subtle shifts in key and the use of pitch-shifting wheels. it's old-school like prog rock but without any of the pomp and showing off- instead it's incredibly understated, and gives room for you to really dwell upon and think about it.

lol, much better.

go back to crystal castles and get a clue about electronic music before posting any serious opinion.

it would be alright if you didn't have the pretension of knowing what you're on about; the negative opinion is fine, the lack of a clue isn't.

Music by Cavelight is a phenomenal album. The man that makes all this music makes the sounds for Aesop Rock and a bunch of others. I didn't care much for Downtown Science but I especially like this track.

it sounded right to me and i said it, pretty simple really. and an 1 line post is not an attempt to have a serious opinion, in any way. Keep tryign anyway.
ps i was being fair on the artist and his album, not you. don't really care what you(or others, for that matter) have to say

an uninformed and uneducated opinion is not being 'fair' to any artist, tbh.

it's like saying the mona lisa is "alright" when you don't have a clue about painting.

music is more than just background noise, or more than just a 'cool' accessory for some.

Maybe I'm not mature enough to construct a precise and 'fair' critical post for a piece of music but even then, please remember i'm not using my first language. not actually playing the language card but i find it hard to describe something as abstract as music. agree on your last sentence, and also, goodnight.
