I don't mean to intrude, but what generation do those words come from?

On topic, it's easier for people in their mid-20's and 30's to relate to these kids because we've grown up surrounded by this philosophy. People in their 40's, and especially 50's and 60's are just dumbfounded that someone would want to unexpectedly take a weekend off from a scheduled crew position to celebrate their cousin's birthday at their wife's aunt's log cabin halfway across the state...and communication is nearly out of the question. The old guys can't figure out how to get reality through these kids' skulls and these kids can't figure out that if they want to keep their jobs, it has to come first.

There's also the fact to consider that there are vastly more work/career options than there were 30-40 years ago. Just look at IT for any number of examples one could give. This time in our society is certainly faster paced and I think people become more restless when presented with more choice.
