As useless as it seems to be, go with what people are saying and if you have the cash, buy it.
If it sucks, sell it and profit.
If it sucks, sell it and profit.
The main reason I wouldn't even consider buying an iPad. I'm sure they're right and flash is outdated technology and that HTML5 is much better, but the truth is that 50% or so of the web still uses flash and when I buy a product as expensive as an iPad, I want to be able to use it now and not in five years time. Especially if I can get a touchscreen note/netbook that can do more and costs less.Ryan wrote:
iPad is the best way to experience 50% of the web that doesn't use flash. View whole pages in portrait or landscape on the large Multi-Touch screen. And let your fingers do the surfing.
That said on a 40% discount I might. There is always a chance you'll find you really like it and otherwise you can still sell it with profit.
40% is pretty substantial, I'd get it. Especially if you like to read.
They put my name on the list.
My EVO on 3G or 4G handles full websites just fine. And I can put it in my pocket/holder when I don't need it. The iPad is just too big to take around everywhere. And where you could bring it along, a small laptop or netbook could do more.Ryan wrote:
Oh, and I really like that you can see full webistes. With the touch/iPhone, you constantly get redirected to the crappy slow mobile sites.
wish we have evo's here

my brother got a dell streak which is like the bastard stepchild of an ipad and a smartphone. Put me off all these gadgets altogether, looking at him acting smug about trivial apps and ebooks and then trying to make a phone call on what is essentially a shiny equivalent of a paving slab.
I'll stick to my PC and basic smartphone combo for as long as possible.

Reselling it would violate the student discount agreement, I would assume. There's no way they would offer it for such a discounted price if you could resell it and under cut their bussiness.
I guess but I still have a feeling that Apple would have some sort of system in place to prevent reselling their student ipads.
Anyway I think a lot of peoples disdain for apple and their products stem from Apple advertising campaign/methods. Some of theirs ads, to a tech savvy person, come off as pretentious borderlne retarded. And the fact that you can't escape from theirs ads and influence (stories about apple product launches in news broadcast or in news magazines) causes some resentment. If more of theirs ads were like the iphone 4 one with the little girls hiding her braces from her father rather than Mac vs PC, I think people would be more 'accepting' of apple products.

re: retarded ads.
One of the selling points of the iPhone4 was the ability to change your background...
But worse of the worse of late, Jobs recent comment was that all smartphones have the same antenna reception issue.
There was a time when I respected Jobs vision/creativity. Now, he speaks more like a messiah, spouting garbage that he knows his devout followers will believe/follow without question.

apple do a surprisingly little amount of advertising. it's one of their brand strengths - the 'industry' and tech community generates enough hype and awareness of their products so that they can spend a relatively little amount of money on advertising. what adverts they do put out, though, end up being incredibly pervasive and influential - 'iconic', befitting of the brand.Macbeth wrote:

i think you'd have to be "borderline retarded" to judge a tech-gadget on its advertising ploy, tbh.

yeah, precisely.
people blame apple for 'creating a religious cult' of consumerism but it's the tech-industry and public that generate the hypestorms.

Here in SoCal, I see more TV ads for the iPhone4 than I do for the Droid or Evo. But yeah, brand recognition definitely. Whenever I see white headsets, Apple is always the first thing that comes to mind.

I didn't pass any judgement on their products. I see more Apple ads than I see ads for any other tech maker.
The only iPad success/often real world usage story I've heard is from one of my dad's coworkers,
He works on a passenger ferry where there are always two people on the bridge (Driver/standby) they each take 2 hour shifts, so she bought a 3G iPad and uses it to aimlessly surf the web during her off times.
I see that as a pretty good use for it, otherwise, I'm not so sure if/when it's really truly useful.

Well they are the largest tech company in the world so that's hardly surprising.Macbeth wrote:
