Pretty sure most of the people who have seen the movie knows who wrote it. He's hardly a little known author.

EDIT: Oh and nice little jab Uzi, I missed that.
it's true, though. the brat pack got 'popular' amongst youth because they had the good-fortune of having a series of very good movie adaptations; the actual prose-writing, style and technique in their work is nothing of particular great note. the most accomplished writer is probably easton-ellis - but again, not noted as a great stylist or 'writer's writer'. most people that read fight club are the same people that will buy and read 'fear and loathing...', 'american psycho' and 'a clockwork orange'. straight-fact.

atg he's one of contemporary americas most popular writers. forgive yourself for not having much of a clue.
Oh yes, I'm sure it's true. That's certainly how I got into American Psycho at any rate. I just assumed that comment about it being read by people who want to sound well read was aimed at me.

Heh, perhaps. Are you saying you read the book before the movie though?

yes.

started reading the series way back. now have imperial bedrooms on my reading list.

are you further incriminating yourself as a not-very-avid reader? i.e. not well read? so be it, then.

I thought my previous comment already suggested that? I wouldn't say I was a hugely avid reader though, no. I do however enjoy a good book, and whilst I haven't read anything like the volume of books and authors that you have I'd say I was reasonably well read. Which you'd probably scoff at, but whatever. I can't say I'm embarrassed that films like A Clockwork Orange and American Psycho have turned me on to authors I probably wouldn't have read otherwise.

as i said before - i haven't 'said' anything... it's all self-incrimination. so clearly there is a level of outward, external embarrassment or concern.

I don't know about you lot, but whenever I walk into my local bookstore I feel...I guess ashamed is the closest to what I would describe it as. Ashamed at all the stuff I haven't read yet, and that's usually just the literary classics that I've heard of someplace before. I'd be at a loss if you asked me to name a great contemporary novel. I'd need to be the guy in that Twilight Zone episode with his books for eternity to actually make progress in the endeavour of becoming "well-read".

Or perhaps I just feel the need to pre-emptively defend myself against your attacks.

They're all good, I wouldn't put any in my top 10 though.

Well, interesting software, but I doubt that my second submission would get the same result.

What's so great about this movie? I see the cover and think "four stupid guys and some half-naked chick in the foreground whose head is cropped off by the box...this is going to be just another annoying stupid guy movie with every stupid guy movie cliche in the book." It never surpasses 70% on rotten tomatoes and has an average of 3.5 stars on amazon. Yet I constantly see people all over the internet blathering on about what a great and instant-classic movie this is.
Doubled the length and got JRR Tolkien. There's a bit of irony there.

edit: I suppose I could dig up high school English short stories and submit them in all their terribleness, but it'd probably tell me that I write like Shakespeare.

I doubt Cory D. writes like this. a couple periods, commas, and semi-colons were added intentionally.
