Balance of trade is a holdover from pre-Adam Smith mercantilism. The only reason it is used by politicians and the media is because its an easy concept to grasp (though wrong), and they generally have no background in economics so they don't know better. Shouting about the trade deficit is something that they can use to scare people and sell advertising or win votes, nothing more

Nope I applaud the absence of intrusion on life liberty and happiness by anyone toward anyone, ( a very consistent stance I might add) and a smoker intrudes on anothers quality of life against their will in that regard.

Yes. Bars, restaurants, any public space. You can't even smoke within fifty feet of an entrance to a public building. They've done everything possible to isolate smokers from non-smokers so that we do not invade their space. I don't have a problem with it. I only have a problem with being singled out for taxation.

Well I have a problem with it.. If a bar is a known smoking bar, and a non smokers chooses to go in it, that is on him. If a restaurant is a smoking restaurant and a non smoker chooses to go in that is on him.

What  I'm speaking of is smoking on buses, federal buildings where we all have to do business, etc.... I have no problem with designated smoking establishments.

If you are going to light up and pollute the area with your smoke you are a prick, and no, you should not be told not to do so, you should be aware of the people around you and consider them in the first place.
