Are you doing IT Supporter or Datatekniker?
I was planning on datatekniker, because I hate advicing people who have no clue about computers what to do...

But I gave that up as soon as we were told that we have to take the next level of cisco there -.-
Haha.

I sprung for IT Supporter because I didn't have the five and a half years for datatekniker. Let me assure you that the diploma means nothing. Absolutely nothing. What matters is the apprenticeship that you get, and the people you know. After my grundforloeb, I went to work with an ISP. In the two years I spent as an apprentice before being hired full time, I designed nationwide 10Gbps backbones, designed, purchased and deployed millions of dollars worth of equipment, managed network access for 70,000 Internet, IPTV and VoIP customers, designed network and network service infrastructures scalable to hundreds of thousands of users, went on business trips to the U.S., Germany, Sweden and the U.K., and worked up a huge network of contacts in the industry that could land me any kind of job I wanted in IT. That's networking, and that might not be you. I had classmates who went to work for IBM and Sun Microsystems and went in a different direction but had equally exciting careers. Whichever you'd choose, it's a far cry from sitting in a dull classroom making two routers talk to each other, or writing a paper on the PCI bus. It's where you are, and the people you know.

When you're on campus, you're surrounded by people who're content to do small office IT, supporting a dozen users and their computers and e-mail systems. You're surrounded by people who lack ambition to a sickening degree, people who'll do everything to project the dreary reality that they find themselves in on to everyone else so that they don't feel alone in their misery. You either aim above that, or you seek out another profession. Never settle for anything less than you're comfortable with in IT.
atm I just want to get fucking paid tbh...

There is no job for me, or if there is it has a sickening amount of studying to get a somewhat useless diploma first...

And beeing as antisocial as I am, I doubt I will ever be able to count on a network...

Here's the thing FloppY_.  You want to get paid now.  Sure, go for it.  At your age, seems fine and dandy.  Thing is, without a solid sound foundation, odds are, you'll be stuck in that low level low paying job unless you find the time for further schooling.  After a few years, busy working and all, plus more financial responsibilites as you go, it'll be that much harder to get back to any form of schooling.  You are better off getting as much schooling as you can before real financial responsibility comes around.

I can speak from experience.  A couple friends went to work right after high school, while I went to college.  Soon after, they get nicer cars and partied a lot.  I'm at school, getting work experience only during summer breaks.  A few years after I'm done with University, jumping from job to job, getting a load of experience and constant increases in salary.  Less than five years out of college, I buy my first house, a new house in a new development.  I actually could have bought a new house a few years earlier, but chose not to.  Prior to that first house, I already had my 3000GT.  Present day, I own multiple properties.  Have purchased 8 new cars in the last 20 years.  Waiting for the housing market to settle down before I purchase my next property.  And will get a new car probably by year end.  One of my friends does have his own house, but drives economy cars.  The other still lives with the parents.

Reality check FloppY_.  You want real rewards, you have to put real effort.  You just want to get by, stay the course you have set for yourself.

what a stretch from Cisco to FloppY_'s issue, what it being a Tech thread...

That's what I was hoping..

You can go the school way or the work way...

I think I have some form of ADHD because I can't stand reading stuff like Cisco CCNA material.

Hmm, so should I get:

2 x SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3EG HD203WI 2TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $139.99

or

2 x Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $109.99

Obviously the WD Black is the better and faster drive, but this is purely for storage.  Think its worth it to sacrifice a combined 1TB of space for faster speeds?  Is WD Black a better drive than the F3s in terms of durability and longevity?

What is your reason for not getting Samsung Spinpoint 7200 F3s ?

They are the fastest drives available except for the latest ludicrous Velocirator...

What kind of FAIL is that?!

The samsung spinpoint F3 and F1's are the most popular discs here

EDIT: What are they for?

A limited slot NAS or do you have plenty of room?

If room isn't an issue get 4xF3 1TB

Its for using in one of those eSATA connection docks.  I've already got a 1TB and 1.5TB WD Green that I use with them but they're full.  I'm planning on building a NAS eventually but I havent had time.

Getting 4 of those is a pretty huge increase in cost, I'm not going to do that

I run 6 of those 5400RPM F3 2TB disks in a raid5 for storage. Works perfectly fine for that. Higher RPM drives just eat more power and get hotter.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

64mb cache could make a big difference though...

Personally I've allways preferred Samsung drives though, I had a WD Raptor once and it died within a year

I have a random 500GB Caviar as storage though, it was a gift from someone who couldn't get the samsung F1 equivilant... It's fine, but I only use it for backups...

EDIT: Though though though...

What are your thoughts on the BenQ V2420? I know it's a BenQ (inb4freezer), but I don't feel like paying twice as much for a equivalent Samsung.

Edit: Well, I can get a Samsung 24SW for a similar price, I think I'd rather do that

I'm actually thinking about falling for a gimmick and getting a 2233RZ, the 22" 3D one.
