I don't know of anything similar to By The Throat. If you do, please share.

I claim it as the album of the century because I like it very, very much. I haven't heard anything that would have changed my view on music as much as it did (haven't heard anyone call it the album of the century anyways). For me it is the album of the century, so far.

Your troll posts are amusing, though

Nonono, I've heard of ambient, but never like. Consciously made an effort to listen to it. If that makes sense?

that is quite possibly the entire aesthetic of ambient music

What not making an effort to listen to it? I didn't mean it as in, when it's on I don't actively pay attention, I mean...I didn't know there was decent ambient music (to me it was literally just stuff played in lifts/hotel + airport lounges etc), with established artists. And never realised it's as big a thing as it is. It's kinda hard to explain what I mean but it might just be cause im tired. I wish i had known these things before though cause it is really beautiful.

there's always a finer, higher aspect to genres - and all forms of art.

a common statement from a pendulum fan may be, for instance: "I didnt know there was Dnb that sounded like London Elektricity!"

i.e., they know 'of' a genre from (poorly informed) preconceptions and past experience, but haven't explored it properly.

there's crappy, unimaginative and boring ambient lift-music just like there's 3-chord knock-off Nickelback rock bands

there's also still a world of utterly mindblowing, fantastic, vivid and sensational stuff, too

True true. I had just never thought of ambient sounding this good. But as you said, there is always better than the stuff you hear. If I'm honest, its only in the last 2 or 3 months I've stopped listening to drum and bass exclusively and started trying to find amazing music in all genres. I say genres loosely cause I know alot of artists like to mix things up.

Anyway, I gather you like ambient alot? Alot of the stuff you recommend seems to be ambient (or the stuff I've noticed you recommend anyway)

If anyone's interested in ambient albums I've recently been enjoying the shit outta Solar Fields - Reflective Frequencies, Sounds from the Ground - Brightwhitelight, and Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place.

Love Ulrich Schnauss. I've also got a few of Sounds from the Ground albums, but nothing noteworthy for my taste. I'll be sure and check out that Solar Fields album.

Also, anyone on what should download my rip of 'Fishing for Snirks' by Gork is a fun little album, not ground-breaking or album of the century, but I enjoyed it, so I'm sure many of you will, too

Finally getting around to listening to The Black Dog's "Music For Real Airports". First thing I thought was "this reminds me of Portal", which makes sense of course. Cold, calculated, sterile ambient music.

I love it.

Truly good music can surpass that barrier and sound great anywhere. Not saying you should listen on laptop speakers, but it'll probably sound great enough in a $20 pair of headphones.

*Bookmarked, btw (along with the rest of his albums). Will check it out as soon as I finish up the rest of the stuff I've got on my plate. Thanks for sharing.

every piece of music needs deserving appropriate equipment.

it is up to you whether or not you elect to run an old banger in the formula one championships.

a lot of the more ambient stuff I listen to is almost worthless out of say my laptop speakers, and i'd think i'm missing a good deal of it out of my $70 IEMs

Was just curious, will check it out regardless

I'm probably missing out on a good deal of subtlety as well, and I may not be hearing it at its full potential. But in the end, I think it comes down to whether or not you enjoy and appreciate the music regardless of what it's being played on. I can't just play a .flac on the best soundsystem in the world and instantly convert anyone who dislikes the kind of music I listen to. Then again, I'm not going to listen to classical masterpieces through a cell phone speaker. I guess what I'm trying to say is, go with whatever works? Meh, my $0.02.

Music like this is just taking us one step closer to a future full of tight spandex clad youngsters, dancing to this shit in dark nightclubs while drinking shitty protein drinks. Just as bad as Ben Frost.
