Edit: I put this in 1.3 chatter because it's something that I would like to see implemented in this new patch along with the new changes that are coming to prevent squad hopping.

I've been playing commander a bit more these days and I would like to ask all of you that play as squad leaders to be a bit more outspoken about your needs. I always get complaints about UAV/Artillery not being placed where they want it, but then they never request any of the assets.

For example, numerous times, I'll have a UAV ready for deployment and I see my troops advancing towards a flag. Normally, we'd place a UAV to provide support to these troops so that they know where troops are. Next thing you know, I have a couple troops bitching that they didn't get a UAV at the flag they were defending and thus we lost it. Sure, a scan could've spotted the enemies around the flag, but scan isn't always available when you need it. So speak up, call for UAV, it's much more useful for a group of troops trying to cap a flag with a few enemies around than the massive groups of troops that could just spot the enemies by looking around.

Supplies isn't that big of a deal. Usually there's tanks or assets that need repairs, but I still don't get enough requests for them. Sometimes they can make a huge difference, like with choppers for example, so that they can repair close to the flags, rather than going back to home base. Also, you guys are the ones fighting, and you know exactly where you want the supplies to land. If you call for supplies, they will land more accuratelly where you want them, rather than me having to judge with my map. This is the one asset that i usually have lying around waiting for someone to ask for it.

Artillery is the last asset that I think would do better if people would ask for it as needed. For example, lets say that you are defending a flag that has become white. I invariably see commanders place artillery at that spot, guaranteeing that no one will cap it. Pisses me off. The better way to do this would be have the squad leader judge if he's gonna be able to cap the spot before getting killed. If not, then call for artillery as a backup plan for when you get killed. Yes, as commander I have a good view of the overall battlefield, but you guys are the ones playing and can see some things better. I think that if we got more requests, there'd be better placed arty.

So in conclusion, squad leaders need to play the role more often, or not bother to be a squad leader at all. Unfortunatelly, the way the game is set up, there is an incentive to be leader (no team switches, better access to commander assets), but no deterrent for not playing the role (no punishments or anything for sucking at squad leader).

when i'm playin squad leader i always ask for the assets and most of the time the commander gives them.  'specially if i have like an 7-8 man squad then i'm always annoying the commander for uav's and supplies and arty and shit, and soon it's gonna be vehicles!  hahahaha

I usually request the supply crates only.   A decent commander usually does a sat scan and then place the UAV constantly all game.  Or throws a supply crate to the person when you assume they need it.  Since the stuff regenerates pretty rapidly, I would just recommend throwing it out like hot cakes!  I just got a mic, so I am going for the next level!

max limit in the game is 6 for a squad.... and 7 if that squad bug is messing the game up at the time... but the 7th can't spawn on the squad leader...

and i usually leave the artillery up to the commander to decide, but if i deem it nessecary i ask for a bombardment before entering a base just to clear out the area and then have the squad go in for a nice little sweep then a cap.

WHen I play SL, i NEVER get any help with the assets I want unless one of my clanmates is complaining. The problem is twofold.

When i'm squad leader unless its clan i can't fucking stand some moron trying to tell me what to do. Mostly i just leave straight away when i hear some moron crying on the mic because we're losing. And then he gives encouragement like i give a shit about what he says to me or the team.

TEAMWORK.

CMD an SL should work together as should the Squad.

SL ask for things, and CDM talk to your men. Make eachother know that you are there.

The CMD has a good wiev of where power is needed therefore, you should as SL work on following ordres.

I know a lot of CMD suck, but give them alle a fair chance to prove them selves.

And CMD. trust your SL's they are in the shit, your are not. So If they say NO! to an ordre, give them space, but use the CMD channel to ask and coordinate.

BF2 IS ABOUT TEAMWORK.

remember 2 + 2 = 5 5 is better then 4 and makes you win.

Because you were bitching at squad leaders that wanted a UAV at a flag when you yourself could have clicked spotted a couple of times and shown them where people were instead of dropping a UAV. It's called a menu genius, use it.

Gotmex you bring up a good point. But the commander has to be good in the first place and listen to requests. when i am squad leader i never hesitate when it comes to asking for supplies, UAV or artillery. It is really good when the commander listens to me and gives me what he can.

But i hate it when i am just about to capture a control point and a bad commander see's the grey flag and decides to drop arty on my head.

Hope to play on your team cause u sound like a good commander and will help me out in my squad.

Dude, that's my whole point... sometimes you don't have a scan ready so you don't know if there's enemies around, or you're busy doing other stuff as commander such as spotting enemies elsewhere (like spotting a rouge soldier)...

If those squad leaders trying to cap a flag would ask for UAV, I'd know that they need one.... Instead people chose to not do any requests and then go on to bitch at commander for not reading their minds. Of course, you still don't seem to get my point.

Commander can't be everywhere... squad leaders have all those T-key options for a reason... use them.

I play Commander / squad leader quite a bit and I've foun that the cooperation between those two roles is one of the larger factors in determining the outcome of the round. Often times, however, the commander won't listen to me (as a squadleader) when I request stuff. When I'm commander, none of my squadleaders request assets. Oh well.
