As far as welfare v unemployment. I know plenty of well to do people that lost their job recently. Don't know any that went on welfare. Why is that? Because when you make over 100 grand a year, you are lucky, and tend to be ABLE to put some aside. I can quarantee you that if they hadn't been ABLE to put some aside, then the 400 bucks unemployment pays would have meant they NEEDED more support. Thank god they were never poor, and were able to do so. How can you expect someone to put away 20% of their earnings to cover rainy days, when their earnings dont even equal their cost of living.
Umm poor people get food stamps, they do not pay taxes.

Putting words in mouths again. I never said luck was the only factor in success. Every successful person I have ever spoken to, has said luck played SOME role. Wether it was they were lucky to have parents that taught them a strong work ethic, guidance couselors that actually talked to them. The schools they were ABLE to attend.

People are a product of their environment. What else plays a role in what environment you were raised in other then luck? What else is here to explain one person getting ____________ over anther, when they were both equally motivated, educated, diven, ambitous?

See I know I got lucky. My situation involves more luck then some. I can see it.
To bad you can't sit back and say that you have truly gotten lucky in life. Too bad you don't love your wife enough to reaize how lucky you are. I believe people make their own luck, I didn't get lucky with my wife, it is not like I had no choice and she was thrust upon me, and I just got lucky to get a good one. I CHOSE WHO I was to marry. I CHOSE not settle for welfare. I CHOSE to make decisions that were going to improve my quality of life. Luck had nothing to do with it. I CHOSE to get out of destructive environments and relationaships.

We do things for ourselves here, and as it is, it is getting harder for me to keep up with my own life style now without the berdon of providing one for someone else.

The thing I always find funny about tax debates on bf2s is that: Since the U.S. Has lower taxes than other wealthy western states we have the highest purchasing power in the world as well as a huge population who can consume on a large scale so the majority of products produced in the world is geared towards our interest since we have a big market with plenty of cash. Sort of like how you have a Swedish company like DICE making a game about a fictional war between Americans and their rival or how CoD started to focus their games on America rather than Europe or how you guys know all of our celebs but we don't know how to even pronouce the names of yours.

Americans actually pay a lot in taxes even compared to Euros... The difference is about 10% (still quite a bit...)

Isn't state, income, property and sales tax added up equate to over 40% in the US?

Our sales tax doesn't come anywhere near the VAT. Property taxes get rebated in for your Federal tax. State income isn't much at all and you can always move to a higher taxed state.
