Call of Duty: Black Ops will be getting dedicated servers, according to studio head Mark Lamia.

When asked whether the popular feature would be present in Black Ops in the new issue of PC Zone, Lamia replied, "I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don't see any reason not to see them unless... well, I just don't see any reason not to."

"It seems people like them and we're excited about what we're doing right now."

Lamia showed his appreciation of how much dedicated servers meant to a lot of PC gamers:

"We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and benefits that the console system provides."

"We're working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they're all on first-party servers."

Apparently, PC Zone magazine confirms also that it will include "a 4 player co-op campaign, Zombies, a new mechanic which allows alternate ammo, a new setting - The Cold War (duh), and crossbows.", but I can't find any scans so don't hold your breath.

Crossbows will be OP. They will be stupid strong if they are anything like RL cause body armor is not designed to stop them. Plus they are even more quiet than silenced guns. I can see it now, slight of hand pro + steady aim pro and the crossbow owning like the silenced UMP does now.

As long as they get rid of all the stupid shit like knives, heartbeat sensors, and thermal scopes I will be happy.

This is stupid I hate dedicated servers. The only reason to have dedicated servers is so that silly 12yo admins can act like retards and ban anyone for breaking their stupid rules. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to have dedicated servers; I just can't see the up side to this.

They are adding in explosive crossbows, along with something else I cant remember from the trailer. No way they are taking things out. Treyarch is not creative at the best of times. CoD4->5 was really just a reskin in case you forgot.

I agree with you half way mtb0minime. Its a double ended sword. On the one hand you have admins kicking disruptive players, on the other hand you hand childish admins kicking just because they can. Either way unless you play on console you will have to either deal with massive numbers of hackers or deal with admins that should be beat with their keyboards.

Well TimmmmaaaaH if they aren't taking things out, then the knife should take more than 1 hit to kill players and should be one hit only with commando. Commando should have never increased the melee distance. Its stupid as hell to put something like commando + knife in a game played over the net where the delay usually favors the knifer even if the other player is already shooting the shit out of the knifer. I almost forgot how ginormous the hit boxes are to add. I can count how many times the kill cam shows the other player knifing the air making things like the shield pretty pointless.

On a side note has anyone ever noticed that most of the CoD games have been released in the October-November time frame? Or that that its ironic that MW2 was released on the USMC birthday yet its primary US branch is the Army?
