http://reason.com/blog/2010/05/11/moham … lars-vilks

Lars Vilks, the Swedish cartoonist who drew Mohammed as a dog, was recently told that a scheduled lecture on free speech, to be held at Jönköping Högskolan, would be canceled due to "security concerns." This, of course, is a common evasion, intended to protect the brittle sensibilities of Muslim students while supposedly standing four square behind the right of free speech.

Alas, the administrators in Jönköping had a point. During a lecture in Uppsala today Vilks was attacked by a pack of feral fundamentalists, one of whom managed to headbutt the artist and break his glasses. Police intervened and waged a short battle with the religious nutters who can be heard in the video below, captured by the newspaper UNT, shouting Allahu Akbar! The AP has a quick report, explaining that "Uppsala University spokeswoman Pernilla Bjork said Vilks was showing a provocative film with sexual content to the crowd when the attacker ran up and hit him in the face with his fists."

Oh...  how predictable they've become.  But look...  they decided to go even further this time...

http://www.thelocal.se/26706/20100518/

Two brothers suspected of targeting controversial Swedish artist Lars Vilks' home have been remanded into custody for attempted arson.

The two brothers, aged 19 and 21, are believed to have attacked Vilks' house in the village of Nyhamnsläge in southern Sweden on Friday night with gasoline-filled plastic bottles. A window in the house was smashed and a curtain was set on fire.

Well, hopefully this means Sweden will be a bit more restrictive in its immigration laws in the near future.

Obviously, most Muslims aren't like this, but all it takes is a small group of fanatics to terrorize a society.  Hopefully, Sweden will find whatever radical clerics have gotten ahold of the minds of these pathetically thin-skinned college students.

so this is how a moderate muslim vents? I ask because I see no ties to radical Islam before they got pissed off. Doesn't appear to take much to go from moderate to radical in Islam nowadays. Oh well, it is just a few right?

All it takes is being young, dumb, socially maladjusted, and impressionable.

If you'll notice, the vast majority of extremists among the Muslims are young, unmarried men in their early 20s.  This is why Muslim college students are a perfect target for radical clerics to manipulate.  This is why it's important for law enforcement to find these clerics and imprison them for initiating conspiracies and encouraging hate and violence.

It is true that Islam is highly prone to violent interpretations because well...  Mohammed was a warlord.  Clearly, his message (and lifestyle) was not as peaceful as Christ's, for example.  Of course, the Middle Ages showed us that you can even turn a religion based on a pacifist into a weapon for war as well.

Nevertheless, weeding out the radical clerics that manipulate Muslim youths is the most effective long term approach to minimizing terror and extremist reactions to cartoons and the like.

It's not that Muslims are inherently more violent than other people, it's that some of their elders are an extremely negative influence on their youth.  Thankfully, most Christian reverends and priests don't encourage the same militance in their youth.

Not trying to justify various atrocities committed by either side, but Christian Europe in the middle ages had every reason to be paranoid about the advance of Islam.

This is true, although what Christians did to the pagans was uncalled for.  Before Muslims and Christians were enemies, Christians basically killed off most of the various other religions throughout Europe.  While many people chose to convert to Christianity, others were killed for refusing to convert -- in much the same way that Muslims did to the pagans of their lands.

I agree, and since there is a shit load of people that fit this demographic, I think it is time the Euroweenies in here as well as some Ameritrash stop kidding themselves as to the potential threat posed by them. It does not take much to turn a "moderate" into a "radical", as is shown god damn near daily and in this OP.

They should be treated like criminals, I don't know why they need to resort to violence and douchebaggery when they protest. They can protest all they want... drawing muhammad as a dog isn't going to get you any friends, but I don't recall the need to respond to that with specifically violence.

this is true but when it takes the blow of a wind to turn someone radical, that is an added element to that threat. This is the problem within Islam, all of this talk about "the few". Well the "few" can and does grow rather quickly when all it takes is spilt milk to ignite a blaze.

Islam is nothing more than dry kindling. It is not a threat as long as a spark does not jump.

We're not talking about a blow of a wind lowing, what turns moderate Muslims into radicals can be described as a hurricane ... I don't support their actions but I believe I grasp the reasons for those that turn radical ...

Being poor, uneducated and impressionable makes it easier to make you radical but it doesn't mean everyone in that category is a radical, big difference ... Islam itself has nothing to do with it ... if it did all troops in Afghanistan and Iraq would be dead a long time ago ...

Simple math really ... millions vs thousands kinda speaks for itself doesn't it?

If you have equally trained forces it takes 3 to 1 to overrun a position, if you have uneducated forces vs trained forces it takes roughly 10 to 1 ... when you have 1000+ to 1 you are fucked ...

I was only referring to the young, poor, uneducated and impressionable that would have flooded both countries if they all where radicals ... not the whole country ...
