The question was whether people are required to carry ID, I never said the Police can't check us out.
If we believe the police have no lawful reason to be stopping us and asking for our details we are free to tell them to go fuck themselves - stopping a member of the public without lawful excuse is harassment - but you have to be sure of your ground and its easy for the police to make something up.
So:
We don't have to carry ID.
We don't have to identify ourselves or answer any questions if we choose not to. Its up to the police to prove we've committed a crime and not for us to prove we haven't - unlike america.
Carrying papers or not is not the real issue, a means to prove your identity is.
bullshit, a cop called to a scene is going to interview those at the scene, to determain if a crime has been committed. Stop acting as if the Aussie police have no authority over the citizens, and that they are not allowed to investigate or check the ID of people they suspect might be relevant to his investigation.
It is the same here, a cop with a reason to talk to you has the right to ask you for ID, there is no difference. By the way, yet again, you all seem to be avoiding the FACT that AZ law is nothing more than enforcing the federal law that is already on the books. You must provide ID.
