Picked up the Sony DASH today. A nice little handheld tablet-esque gadget. Free apps, netflix streaming, weather, alarm clock, email, facebook, etc. Might put a review up
^ Cool, but what is it's purpose over say... a netbook/smartphone?
Sell it to me in a few lines.

Basically integration of the internet to your home without having to sit down on a desk...
would be my guess for good uses...

I get Woot, Facebook, Failblog, Onion, Philosoraptor, CNBC, etc. It is a great bedside tool, it's gonna be my alarm clock and quick internet browsing tool without turning on or accessing my computer.
OS, Flash, Storage, connectivity?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Could you type on Facebook? That's kinda cool though, I might have to get one.Reddhedd wrote:

Can that thing actually browse the net properly or does it just have a spazz fit on any page with vaguely flash based content unless it has a specifically installed app for it?Reddhedd wrote:

I'm still waiting for his response on OS if it has one non-SonyTheEternalPessimist wrote:

from what I understood from the sony homepage, it only supports those "1000" apps from sony's chosen developer...
e.g. I bet it displays web like shit

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/01/sony-dash-review/The Dash runs Linux, and most of the widgets run inside a Chumby OS layer, which also currently ships on the $119 Chumby One and $149 Chumby Classic. Sony's done some extensive tweaking to the system, mostly to take advantage of the larger display with more info-rich homescreens and a streaming media player, but apart from that, this is the same Chumby Engine you know and... probably don't know, actually. Let's start over: the Dash runs Chumby OS on top of a custom Linux build. Chumby OS is basically a Flash runtime, and Chumby widgets -- Sony calls them Dash Apps -- are little Flash modules that pull data from the cloud. These are the same widgets that owners of the old plush Chumby and the Chumby One are already well-acquainted with -- they're optimized for "glanceable" information. In addition to the Chumby stuff, Sony's added its robust (and exclusive) Bravia Internet Video streaming media layer, which enables apps from Netflix, Pandora, Slacker, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube and a host of other providers. Yep, it's a big Flash-based alarm clock that can run widgets in the background -- bet you never saw that coming.
don't know if this counts or not but I bought Hp Ink 95 and 97? and some HP 500ct multipurpose printing paper, along with 30 jewel clear cd cases for my 12 cds of P90X!
Meh, If it could run Win7 I'd consider it....Winston_Churchill wrote:

Couldn't care less about it running windows, just having a web browser that's actually capable of browsing the web instead of just fucking you about with shitty apps would be nice, there's more to the interwebs than facefuck and pootube... shitty things.

I know it's creative
I know it's old
But I got it for $40, as opposed to $240 for a Xonar D2X

people slate the shit out of the apple ipad but as soon as some replica-ware comes along everyone is
"ooh ooh what tricks does it do? sell it to me! sell it to me!"

It's not an iPad, it's an overcomplicated alarm clock.
Umm the iPad is what £430? Thats £135, comparing the two is stupid at the very least... Either way it's still a useless bag of shitUzique wrote:

Yeah, cause I would much rather pay $500 bucks for a shitty enlarged iPhone.Uzique wrote:

I'd prefer an ipad over one of those things tbh. Not that I'd actually have a use for either...
Price makes a big difference. If I could get an iPad for the same money I'd be all over it. Ridiculously pointless gadgets for sub 150 pounds are ok, 400 and something pounds is too much.Uzique wrote:

Just fired off 2 orders.
Atom D510 board + extra NIC + Lian Li PC-Q07 case + HDD + 8 port gigabit switch. I'll turn that into a router/firewall/squid box.
Watercool HK 3.0 LGA1336. It'll go into my main PC. The block in there currently will go into my secondary PC.
Too bad delivery time is going to be 1-2 weeks. Damn this country
