What is economic fascism? Define it, in your own words.
again, equating obama with fascism is just dumb, there's no two ways about it. But you go on living in your little world of paranoia and fear of socialists and muslims and we'll get on with the real world.lowing wrote:

the part I was referring to is govt. control over private industry......It has happened and it fits in the definition of fascsim.
I love it, just call it dumb with no explanation as to how it is dumb... Especially since BY DEFINITION I pointed out what he is doing fits. If you are going to deny it, then explain how it is wrongruisleipa wrote:

I got it, how about you start with the American auto industry and health care industry, govt. control over private salary, and tell us all how, BY DEFINITION of fascism, that Obama's actions do not qualify

Your denial does not matter much and has nothing to do with the FACT of the matter.
How can someone be a Fascist and a Liberal?
Xbone Stormsurgezz
good question, I found this "In the book, Goldberg argues that fascist movements were and are left-wing. He states that both modern liberalism and fascism descended from progressivism, and that prior to World War II, "fascism was widely viewed as a progressive social movement with many liberal and left-wing adherents in Europe and the United States".[2]"Kmarion wrote:

Most Fascist movements are very statist when it comes to social policy. By modern standards, that would mostly imply social conservatism.lowing wrote:

Most liberals in America would be considered somewhat statist in economic policy, but mostly libertarian in social policy.
So, in an American context, liberal fascism isn't really a relevant topic. You can draw parallels with liberals and socialists, but American liberals are much more economically moderate than liberals in Europe or Canada.
you are drifting away form the context of my orginal argument.Turquoise wrote:

BY definition of fascism.......do you agree Obama's action qualifies as fascist? govt. controll over private industry, salary caps for private citizens,
The stiffling of opossing view points, ( not yet but a very real possiblity with this administration and congress.
If you are making up new meanings then no it's not wrong. However, Fascism and Liberalism are at odds with each other.lowing wrote:

Only if you stretch what's happening. Obama is no more a fascist than Bush was.lowing wrote:

I used to criticize Bush a lot when he was in office, but I never used the typical "Bush = Hitler" arguments. Nowadays, it seems that people are trying to do the same with Obama.
Obama isn't controlling any private industries anymore than what our stock holdings allow. For example, the only major company that the government has bought a controlling interest in is GM, but that's largely because the Canadian government bought a large chunk of it as well. Naturally, we needed to buy more in order to have more leverage.
Salary caps aren't fascism anymore than the FCC's censorship of media is.
