I was just wondering if some of the people on these forums have any interesting family military history that they wouldn't mind sharing.

My Great Grandpa was in the German Army in WW1, my Grandpa was in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, my other Grandpa was in WW2, 2 of my uncles were in Vietnam, my Grandma's ex was in WW2 in the German Army, and he died in the Eastern front, and my brother is currently serving in Afghanistan in the 40th infantry division.

My grandfather (on my dads side) was one of 9 brothers who went to war. Four of them died in action. My grandfather on my mom's side was a pilot in pearl harbor during the attack. When he came to land the runways were completely destroyed and when he landed he broke all of his fingers and his nose. He was very lucky.

My family hit these shores in 1637.  My Great x 9 Granpa was a Sergent in The Continental Army.  Since then I am the first in the line to NOT serve in the Armed Forces (f'ed up back).  My Dad was in WWII (joined on his 18th birthday), Korea & Viet Nam.  He was Career Intelligence and was on the Pueblo Inquery Board.

My Wife's Granpa is Major General Henry Rupertus - he authored the Rifle Creed & Commanded at ill fated attacks on Pelelu, then Commanded the USMC Brracks at 8th & I.  Her dad was a USMC A4 pilot with 3 x Navy Cross.

My Kid (Kaos008) is headed for Annapolis.

My great grandpa was a mounted lancer during World War One, and was then assigned to an artillery unit where he helped to move the guns.  He was later promoted to lead a unit of guns, earning dozens of military awards.  He served again in World War Two, and went back to his old artillery unit.
My other great grandad served in World War One, but was caught out in the open by a shell one day, and his arms were torn and peppered with shrapnel.  Luckily he made it home alive.
More recently I had my uncle who served in the RAF as an Engineer, but left a few years ago.

My family's military history goes like this.

My great Uncle Mike trained to be a pilot in NZ, then shipped out to fly Spitfires in Great Britain. When he got there, the war was over, so they gave him a medal and sent him home.

That's it.

Grandfather (Mums stepdad): Was in Royal New Zealand Arillery Corp during 'Nam. IIRC, his unit provided assistance in the Battle of Long Tan, but he didnt join that unit till 3 months after the battle.
Great Grandfather (mums granddad): Fought in WWI, dont know many details but he got his foot shot off.
Dads Uncle: Tanker in WWII I belive. His thumb was sliced off from the tank hatch closing on top of it.
Unsure: Mums blood-grandparents on her blood fathers may have been germans, However I am unsure of this.

Grandfather fought 4 years in WW2 against commies, and got shot in throat but survived.

He was stationed in AT-gun crew and sometimes showed his pics of destroyed Soviet tanks.

Grandfather's (Mom's dad) brother was an air gunner in the RCAF in WWII. He became a training sergeant to train British air gunners in Canada, but they lost (at least one) engine in a training exercise and everyone died. He was 18, and my grandfather was only 16 so he couldn't enlist.
Grandmother (Mom's mom) had a few brothers serve in WWII. Its been a while since I've talked about it with her so I can't remember where they served.
Grandmother (Dad's mom) was in the Canadian Forces Postal Office in WWII as well.
