Re: sex vs. rape: in one case both adults are consenting, in the other case at least one of them is not. I will explain the "at least one" in a soon-to-be-posted thread that gave me a great idea.
It has nothing to do with consent. One is legal, the other isn't, both for good reason. Comparing caffeine to anything illegal is idiotic.
Failing to note the legal line and all its implications, including personal health issues and punishment, is ridiculous.

We just have such a large variety of sports markets and somewhat of a sports obsession starting at the college and even high school level sometimes that we will do anything to win -- including steroids. It doesn't make it right, but as recent events have shown, more and more of these high profile users are getting caught.
Granted, I sometimes wonder if maybe we should have official drug competitions in sports....

So its spillover of drug use in sport to academia?
If its more or less accepted in college sport then why not?

Sometimes, that's what happens when you are fiercely competitive. Athletes and coaches often get caught up in it all and lose track of prudent judgment. It also doesn't help how there's so much money typically being thrown around among highly ranked college athletics programs -- especially from corporate sponsors.
There have been recent attempts to regulate how money is spent by these sponsors and who can actually receive money from them, but just the knowledge of what happens with a big win or a big season can sometimes push people over the edge into taking risks they wouldn't normally pursue.
Caffeine keeps you awake, Adderall and Ritalin help you focus; they aren't the same thing.
Drugs are bad Mkay?
Wait behind the line ..............................................................
It seems like some of you are misinterpreting the psychoactive part of the drug descriptor..."brain drugs" and coffee are essentially achieving the same effects in the body:
Adderall is amphetamine (aka - speed), plain and simple. It makes you stay awake, and it helps you focus. It's essentially what the military has been giving soldiers and pilots for decades, and now we pump little Johnny and Suzy full of it so they can keep up with the rest of their hopped-up classmates.
Ritalin is a derivative of amphetamine, but its a little less potent. That's why it became more widely prescribed than adderall.
Caffeine does both of these, too, albeit to a lesser extent, and enjoys the benefit of complete societal acceptance.
Our country has somehow created this ridiculous situation in which well-to-do parents pump their kids full of amphetamines as a substitute for teaching them study habits. I wonder how many actually realize what they're giving their kids?

There's pills that make you smarter? /win
I tried concerta a couple weeks ago to study during my exams. Worked quite well, 12 hour study days and I was focused the whole time.
I am a bartender and a lot of the young customers are taking adderall(adhd drug)so they can drink more and stay awake...
Not sure if it is bad but a few people have lost a lot of weight doing it and they all say they are going to stop taking it...
but they still do.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adderall
Adderall has a high abuse potential. Because Adderall has a powerful effect of increasing blood pressure, it carries the same risk of sudden death, stroke, and heart attack in patients with pre-existing heart conditions, as does methylphenidate and other stimulants used to treat ADHD, as well as the same risk of seizures in patients with a history of seizures.[1][27] Studies of long-term use of Adderall and methylphenidate in children have shown a temporary decrease in growth rate that does not affect final adult height.[28] Stimulant medications also decrease appetite in some people, leading to weight loss, and this effect is more common with Adderall than methylphenidate[28] or atomoxetine. Changes in vision have been reported with both Adderall and methylphenidate.[1][27]

Love is the answer
I knew several college friends that would eat Aderall on the week days and snort it (among other things) come the weekends.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

I think Doctors are also encouraged by drug companies to prescribe Ritalin and the like, that's why we have so many cases of ADD/ADHD these days. I sometimes wonder if these conditions are over diagnosed.
No differance than someone with a monotonous job drinking at work. People are gonna use drugs to make life easier either way. Not bothered.
Note: I just pulled a nice exam score out of a few hours of studying and < 2 hours of sleep (not because I was studying, I was occupied by a prior engagement until 4 AM), but I did it without drugs!
One thing which bothers me is all the other drugs parents feed their kids.-CARNIFEX-[LOC] wrote:

Paracetamol, thats dangerous by itself.
Pseudoephedrine based cold remedies, lining kids up for a later meth habit?
Nurofen and Panadol for babies? Christ...
Your kids ill, its normal, they'll be OK in a day or two. Gaining an extra day of 'wellness' is not worth pumping them full of drugs.

youngsters pill popping is mainly an american phenomenon but it's catching on here fast (naturally)
how many of you faggots have i seen talk about how you pop pills for depression and all that non-real shit, meh, it's how certain countries are these days

How about you take engineering, math, and physics out of the same category of chemistry and bio, and then stop talking about what you don't know?Pochsy wrote:

I have a buddy who toke adderall for the first time to study chem this year, and his GPA went from a 3.5 to a 4.0.
I would if I could.

this trend in drugs-for-study is as much a product of stupid, lazy students as it is a product of hyper-competitive, over-pressurizing institutions with unrealistic expectations and standards. keeping up with the average. i dont blame people that take them, but they only work for subjects that involve hours upon hour of mind-numbing learning-by-rote, anyway. i kinda naturally feel sorry for people that do those subjects by default.
also the point about 'societal acceptance' is a big issue. caffeine and other mild stimulants are completely fine but other 'prescription' drugs that affect the same receptors in the same chemical manner arent? it's kind of like the casual chewing of cocoa in south american countries - to us it's shocking use of an illegal drug, but to them it's culturally natural. we have the same with starbucks and high-sugar, high-caffeine, high-taurine, high-stimulant everything. whatever it takes to get the results, i suppose. anyway, it's a huge grey-area and you can't have absolutes of black/white, right/wrong. every drug has a different purpose, a different benefit, a different drawback, and a different potential for abuse.

These are nothing new. Been around my high school for the last 2 years,
I have had them a couple of times, and sure, it helped... but i've steered away from them permenantly, mainly cause there are proven side effects...
seriously, all you need is a good diet, and some excercise, and it'll do more than this drug can, i swear to it.
