More people, especially college students trying to improve their grades, are illegally boosting their brain power by using prescription "smart drugs" like Ritalin and Aderall, meant for those with attention deficit disorders.

I find this lazy as hell.  What concerns me most is not the half ass atitude these kids find acceptable, but where does it end?  So you get good grades and your resume looks great yes?  Does that mean you will be shit at work unless you pop a pill?  Life is not an app on your iphone....you have to work for it.

It all started when they were little. Idiot parents telling them they must be the absolute best and putting too much pressure on them, yet not instilling any work ethic or morals into the kids. It's now coming back to bite them, and it will eventually come back to bite these kids, too.

It's nothing new.

But... what's the difference between drinking a red bull or 2 and popping an adderall? Are you saying everyone should just do their studying completely naturally - just sleep, eat, read? What about people who drink coffee to stay up to study?

I'm not condoning it or anything, but it's not like they're truly cheating. They're actually doing the work, they're just using something to aid their focus. It is, however, highly dangerous and I'm staying the fuck away from it for my whole college career.

I know this isnt a new problem because I remember the episode of saved by the bell where Jesse gets the spotlight put on her use of uppers to get good grades.

Also liv tylers character in the movie empire records was a speed freak school girl.

Coffee helps you focus, no? Helps you stay awake? Caffeine is a "psychoactive stimulant drug".

If Adderall was completely legal for any use, would you really have this issue?

What kind of fucking stupid ass people need to use ADD drugs to stay awake and do homework? I naturally don't sleep for days on end and still manage to get A's while doing a host of other things.

Most of these college kid who dorm away spend most of their time ingesting all other sorts of shit that if they spent that time actually doing class work they wouldn't have to pop pills while cramming.

What's worse is that most of these kids doing it are of the more "useless" majors. All the business majors, art history, literature, etc. It's kind of sad that they think it's insanely difficult and requires that they take those kinds of drugs to do well, or at least pass. Then again, the memorizing and regurgitating are the only majors it works for. When you actually need to learn theories, learn to apply information, or most importantly, learn how to learn: an all-nighter with a cocktail of Red Bull and Adderall is not going to help you at all. Not surprisingly, these are the same kids who drink until their livers shut down and need to be rushed to the hospital and have their stomachs pumped... every weekend.

i can do my job without caffeine.  most people can.  a pill like that means people cannot function without it...period.

They're both drugs. It's not apples to oranges. The only reason you're so against adderall is because it's not legal.

If adderall was in liquid form sold as "Fizzy Pop Drink" and college kids took it when they were studying, I don't think you'd have much of an issue. But because it's a pill and it's a prescription drug that's abused, you are.

Again, I'm not condoning the use of it. I just don't get how you're so against one but not the other just because one's worse.

I took an adderall in February on a jolly night of getting fucked up with my friends. Then the next morning I had work and pushed carts for 3 and a half hours in 15 degree weather whilst at the same time drinking a Red Bull. Never again.

I've already had heart problems back in October, I wouldn't risk myself like that again.

This^^

I may not go to some uber top ranked University, but I've seen the syllabus and course loads for several big top ranked Universities and they are the same thing I'm doing using the same exact books.

In my experience college is fairly easy and most of these people needing to use drugs to get through it are fucking weak.

That's the difference between Adderall and caffeine. Yes, caffeine can be slightly addictive, and you can even experience withdrawal when quitting it completely, but it's not nearly in the same magnitude as the drugs mentioned in the OP.

Ok good. Now please spread the good word, no doubt you'll run into these kinds of retards in college.

I get that adderall is worse. But they are both psychostimulants that people use to focus or stay awake. If you're going to be criticize people for using one, you should really follow suit with people who require coffee to function.

America really does run on Dunkin'.

edit: god damn it's late, where do i come up with the word "beride"

To be perfectly honest, I scoff at the kids who need Red Bull and whatnot, as well. So I'm not segregating or giving any preferential treatment. College isn't necessarily about learning that specific material, it's about learning how to learn, and a lot of these people don't get it. Using drugs as a crutch and placebo to pseudo-learn doesn't help at all.

Personally, I don't drink coffee because I hate the taste, and though I do drink soda, I don't require caffeine to function (and actually prefer not drinking any the night before a big test or while I'm working on homework or a project; sometimes I can get all wired/jittery, and it really doesn't help me focus, just winds up making me more distracted).
