Anyone should be able to hire whoever the hell they want. I'm able, without government assistance, to not purchase their wares if I think their hiring policies are ridiculous.

Nabih Ayad, their attorney, filed suit and he said today that the case may go to trial in a couple of months.Barlaskar said she is a college student who was looking for a part-time job so she wouldn't have to rely on her parents for expenses like gas money. She said her father was recently laid off.
After the interview with the manager, Barlaskar said she did not hear back from her. She said she then called back the McDonald's and was told by the manager that they had hired someone else.
Rachelson, the McDonald's official, said: "It is never our intention to offend anyone. ... We require all employees to comply with local, state and federal employment laws and continually strive to maintain a positive restaurant environment in which everyone feels valued and accepted."
Do you think McDonalds did not hire her because of her religion/ethnicity thinking it would scare people off if she were to work there? Would you consider such case a source of discrimination.... But yeah who knows they probably or not McDonald's the manager or who ever was in charge did not want to hire her because she was wearing traditional Muslim gear, thinking it would probably scare people off.... but regardless its a form of discrimination....
If it was part of their policy that as a requirement of their uniform and dress she can't, then I think as an employer that's reasonable.

The religion has to be recognized by the federal government and have a certain number of members. If it doesn't appear on the census, you don't get shit, and they're good at keeping down religions they know to be undesirable.
There were something like 250,000 writing "Jedi" in the 'other' category on those census', and for a while they seriously considered recognizing it. I can't remember why they don't, now, but I'm sure you can look it up with ease.

I as a manager asked people to take down religious stuff at their workplace, because I didn't want to have anyone offended. Christian and otherwise, I also as a branch manager at a mortgage shop have asked people take down there political stuff because we don't know who or what the clients believe
