Hi guys,
for all of you who don´t know me : I´m one of the server admins on the european BF2s server and I´m doing this "job" for like 4 or 5 weeks now.
I never was an admin before and so after some experience now, seeing both sides of the whole story, the admin and the player, I want to add some thoughts to the "Good admin, bad admin" story.
Or in other words, I wanna stand up for all the admins out there, doing a proper job every night, to deliver you an asshat free and pleasureable event.
First of all :
WE ARE NOT GOD !
I don´t know about others but we at BF2s EU work with a admin tool named BF2CC and believe it or not, we see not much more than you guys do "down there".
Yep, that´s right...we don´t have an all seeing, god-like, satellite eye over the map that shows us exactly where player x is, and what he is doing. All we can trust are some rare written information and our own eye-sight.
And that can be a hard piece of work.
There are times and rounds when I just sit down in an uncap base the whole time because player x is accusing player y of baserapping. I´m fucking up my stats (ending a round with 0-0-0-0), and spending my time just for you guys out there.
Second :
Fairness !
Every player has to be treated equally until he proves me wrong.
That means : I can´t just kick someody, because you saw him doing something wrong. No misunderstanding, please ! We rely on players to tell us if somebody else is screwing the game up, but if we would just take every accusation to the last consequence, we would be more busy kicking people than everything else.
I have to get some sort of prove for myself before I can kick or ban somebody. Players accuse other playes in this game on a daily base, and in the least cases I´m able see if the reason for it is legit or not.
Like I said, we are not god.
Third:
A twisted mind...
This goes out to all the "bad admins out there"...
Of course I like this game and of course I like it to run around with the boys and have some fun, but their are some things we, the admins, shall never forget. We´re not superior to the other players among us, just because we wear the little "admin tag". We are there to control and keep up the peace not to mold the game to please our own pleasures.
Ask yourself the next time somebody "steals your" chopper : Could I do something about it, if I was not an admin ? No ? So let it be... Move on, play the game, nobody got harmed, just your damned pride.
See somebody shooting somebody else out of chopper with a M95 ? Well, this guy disturbs the peace and order for everybody else. You are the admin. Fine...do something about it.
Conclusion
So the next time you roam around the streets of mastuur or karkand, maybe have this little post in the back of your head, before bitching about the admin being a dirtbag because he´s not kicking the guy that "obviously" ran you over with his humvee on intention, teamkilling you.
Me and the admins I know try to provide you with a fair and good game every night, but under the given circumstances and basics this game gives us, it is just not possible to let eveybody turn off their rigs at night with a smile on their face...
Thanks for reading and feel free to discuss.
Greetz,
Tony
