The first race of the new season we have 3 new teams. But if you look at the training times they way back. I hope the gap isn't this big in the race.

The track record is bullshit, that was with the old layout.

As much as I dislike Schumacher (not so much these days) it would be awesome if he were to come to this race and school everyone and win it. I think Hamilton and Alonso might be too much for him, though

do we like the new layout of Bahrain? i like the fast corners of it. but i hate the straight than 90degree turn shit. like most new tracks

They do that to encourage overtaking, long straight followed by tight corner means they can outbrake each other and overtake like that or slipstream on the straights themselves.

The new bit is crap, though. Series of slow/medium corners are usually pointless and boring in F1. That's all this new section is. It was better before because the circuit was much faster.

I wasn't expecting the RB to be that fast, it's a little more spread out than I thought it would be. But... it's a long circuit (second longest after Spa) and unlike Spa it's quite slow/high downforce so that probably spreads the times even more. It's all quite exaggerated for now... but abit surprised at some of these results. Especially Massa beating Alonso

Alonso was consistently faster than Massa throughout, until Q3 when he probably fucked up a tiny bit somewhere...

It's a long circuit, so maybe the new teams won't be lapped that many times...

Not really. The only reason Alonso couldn't pass him beforehand was due to the engine temperature he was getting in his Ferrari because of Vettels dirty air. With 17 laps to go, you saw how Alonso started pushing on Vettel and got the time down to 1.551s, but then Ferrari radioed him and told him to cool off because the engine temperature was getting too hot, which made him lose a second to him. It was unfortunate that Vettel lost power to the car, but the fact remains that Alonso had a lot more power in his Ferrari and should have overtaken him eventually without the power loss. You saw how easily he raped Vettel when he saw the opportunity to overtake, and then his 16 second difference to Massa showed how his Ferrari packed much more of a punch than it was showing when he was behind Vettel.

Vettel was unlucky, but in no way was he meant to be the deserved winner; you can't say that with 17 laps to go.

Yeah, he was closing in fast to Vettel as it was before it all went tits up for Red Bull. Still, it looked like his car wasn't able to handle that turbulent zone or the extra heat in that area behind Vettel so I'm not sure if he would have been able to overtake him if his car was running fine

Once he did get infront of Vettel you could see the lead he pulled out ahead of everyone else and it said alot. Also Rosberg being unable to get fourth position from Vettel despite having about 5 laps being a few seconds behind him in a much more powerful car. Bemused as to how he didn't get infront of him with comfort...

Not a great race though, everyone nursing their tyres too much.

Yes, it's more of a purists sport. Historically speaking. It's only recently that they do all sorts of stuff to try and improve the spectacle, they never tried that stuff before. The crowds came to the sport, not the other way round.

Yeah; it's good fun in small quantities. The qualifying is more fun than the actual race. It's more about the tactics and who wins than the actual race itself. Nobody cares for each lap, but the start and finish are always entertaining; as well as some of the stupid things that go on during the race.

I hate both the engine and the "top 10 qualifiers must use the tyres they used to qualify for the start of the race" rules, but this year may be more interesting than lasts.
