Thats what the countdown was for .

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike and Half-Life) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Portal 2 for shipment this coming holiday season.

Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Portal, which won 70 industry achievement awards.

For more information, please visit www.steamgames.com
If you go on the link you'll see that a bunch of letters are underlined. I guess the 'portal puzzle' isn't over yet.

Game Informer has a site of some sort up about it: http://gameinformer.com/mag/portal2.aspx

The random letters were the final login to the BBS line giving people some Apeture Image Format files, which were decoded to get images saying the puzzle is over.

The announcement itself is rather disappointing... No media whatsoever. Although I suppose the Game Informer site will be filling up with Portal 2 info soon.

I was hoping for episode 3, Portal might've been good but it's a one-day experience that really had no replay value to me

The Gamestop product page seems to magically have more information than anywhere else on the internet. Also co-op:

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product … t_id=77276

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

After legions of fans embraced Portal, Valve knew they needed to double down and give them a sequel. The fiercely independent studio is investing more time, more capital, and more risk into a stand-alone, full-price retail release.
No box . No Episode 3 .

I'd rather Portal 2 be full length, even if it doesn't have Ep3 with it.

Well yeah i'm very happy that it's a full length game this time around. I'm wondering what on earth they've got up their sleeve that allows them to flesh it out that much. Not only that but there's an entire second game in the box, the co-op.

I'm just sad about the lack of Episode 3.

Gabe still has to a speech to do at the GDC on Thursday 3/11 (GLaDOS 3.11 in the BBS was probably hinting this), we may still see an announcement/trailer for EP3, or maybe he'll just say "I can't talk about it"

This is sort of related. A game called TAG, made by students and winner of "Best Student Game Award at the 2009 Independent Games Festival" is a first person puzzle game where you shoot different coloured paint onto the environment and then the walls etc then have different properties.

https://www.digipen.edu/studentprojects/tag/

The short first-person puzzler lets players deface a monochromatic urban landscape with paint-filled super-soakers. Each paint has a different property that results in things like speed boosts, bounces, and wall-walking, giving players a new way to solve some very clever platform puzzles."
https://static.bf2s.com/files/user/27762/Tag2.jpeg

Anyway i'm telling you this because apparently they were hired by Valve and are working on Portal 2.

I havent actually played TAG yet. Downloading it now. Slowly.

Edit: http://360.kombo.com/article.php?artid=18646

Portal 2 Information.

It's been hundreds of years since the explosion inside the labs, and now the facility is scathed, decaying, and overgrown by vegetation and shrubbery.
Another mechanic, named "paint," gives players more control over the environment than ever before. Different colors of paints have varying effects on the environment. An orange paint, for example, changes the surface attributes to allow you to move at uncanny speeds, while a blue paint transforms the environment so it acts as a trampoline.
Looks like they are literally adding that TAG game to it.

Here's a summary from the mag scans that include some information that that website does not:

- Portal was a 'trial'. Size and assets specifically kept minimal. Had no idea it would be this popular.
- Portal was a 'test bed', Portal 2 is a 'game'.
- GlaDOS returns as the antagonist.
- Chell returns, and we play as her.
- Portal 2 takes place a long time after the original. Hundreds of years, in fact. The complex has overgrown.
- Those orbs seen at the end of Portal are personality orbs. They've cornered off sections of the labs as their own, and are concerned about the decaying state of the complex.
- The opening sounds **** awesome. GlaDOS has some funny lines.
- Portal gun remains unchanged.
- Physics will now be part of portal puzzle solving. EG: A vent that sucks air in can be combined with a portal to 'suck' from a different location.
- "Paint" mechanic, various liquid substances that cause some reaction. For example, in the demo shown a orange substance on the floor caused Chell to be propelled upwards. Using portals you can apply these 'paints' to other areas of the level for puzzle solving.
- Reflection cubes will allow Chell to reflect lazers for various puzzles.
- The co-op campaign will have you playing as two bipedal robots. The like to hold hands. Each has a portal gun. Though not sure if both can shoot orange and blue
- Splitscreen for people playing on the console, and 'picture in picture' available for those playing remote co-op (eg: PC). This allows you to easily communicate with the other player and combine efforts for puzzle solving.

So Tag was pretty cool. The small FOV and floaty physics bugged me but the gameplay was certainly interesting. Can't wait to see what Valve do with it in Portal 2.While it isn't exactly portal related, combining the paint with portals will make endless possibilities.
