The ranking is performed neither according to gold medal nor medal total but according to points (3 points for a gold, 2 for a silver and 1 for a bronze). If two countries have the same point total, the country with more gold medals will be ranked first.

I'm not bitter. The Canadians were supposed to breeze through hockey. They struggled in at least 3 games. Canadians obv hold hockey closer to their hearts.

Yeah I found it a bit weird watching the New York Rangers take on the Phoenix (!!) Coyotes in Madison Square Garden a while back. Germany doesn't actually have any ski resorts worth mentioning though - the Alps are mainly Austria and Switzerland.

Germany always does well at the Olympics, If you include when it was east and west in the count, they are second for overall Olympic medals in summer and winter combined.
